Apixaban and Phenergan

I take Apixaban with no apparent problems. I sometimes take Zopiclone to help poor sleep issues especially when having nerve-pain flare-ups, but my GP is no longer willing to prescribe this. I have tried Nytol/herbal type remedies but find them to be not very useful. Has anyone tried the anti-histamine Phenergan to be of any use for sleep issues? I have Googled but can't seem to find any opinions whether Phenergan is compatible with Apixaban. Thanks.

It would be best to ask your pharmacist for advice.

I have taken this as a short term remedy for sea sickness on a few occasions . I do think thst one has to be aware of arrhythmia problems as well. I take Warfarin as an anticoagulant so cannot comment on Apixaban

Ps...it certainĺy made me sleepy 😃

When I had sleep issues and needed to be alert for work, I found that Night Nurse liquid would knock me out. This is ok for the odd night but not something to be taken regularly. Phenergan would give me a wonderful sleep the first night I took it, but afterwards didn't do much. Ordinary Nytol (not herbal)tablets would give me about 6 hours of sleep. I tried everything and nothing was perfect.

People who go to sleep and don't wake until morning don't realise how lucky they are! It's so hard to function normally next day if you haven't slept well

Now I'm retired, my GP prescribes the lowest dose of Zopiclone which I rarely take. I think he would stop prescribing them if a pack of 28 didn't last longer than 2-3 months.

I find I go through a cycle of sleeping well, then not. I think it's down to our biorhythms.

I take Warfarin, but not sure I was on this when taking over the counter tablets etc to aid sleep, so as someone has already said check with your pharmacist first.

Hi Jean, I have frequent bouts of poor sleep but during the winter I followed the Sleepio CBT route which is supported by the NHS. I found it helpful in giving me a methodology for going to sleep and is a non medication approach.

That's interesting, is this something that can be found online?

Yes it is an online programme, just Google Sleepio

I have been a poor sleeper ever since I can remember. Anxiety is a curse. My wife says I think too much, but I don't know what to do about that (Ha Ha). I usually don't have trouble getting to sleep but will awake 3-4 hours later then hopeless. The pills help but I still feel groggy and tired next day and it is better than laying in bed waiting for getting up time. I will check with the pharmacist. Thanks Jean.

Sleep issues, anxiety issues - hard! No simple answers. After a variety of antidepressants, I became hooked on Zopiclone and it was miserable to get off. A sleep study and a consult with a sleep specialist helped. I was advised to slow down, no TV, computer or phone calls after 8 pm, be alert to what the triggers are. I took the CBT for Insomnia course online and it helped get me out of a rut. Brutal though, trying to get on a schedule and then get up on time with practically no sleep. Mine seems to be cyclical to a degree. I have started marking the nights to see if there is a pattern. Overall, a method I keep going back to is one I developed myself. First relax physically. Then I take a deep breath, focus on my breathing and count down from 10, one number at a time each time I exhale, at the same time trying to slow down my breathing. This has helped me for years. I still wake up too early, but that's the anxiety. Then I pray and try to think of things to be thankful for.
