Hi everyone, well i finally had my cardio phone appointment after a 7 month wait since the GP 24 holter showed suspected PAF. (Only symptom really was a prolonged drop in blood pressure) Apparently i do not have AF after all. I should add i also had a 72 hour holter monitor from cardiology. He did say what he thought caused the monitor to think it was AF but i was so shocked i didn't really take it in. He told me to stop taking anticoagulants immediately. So for the moment my journey here ends.I wish you all the very best in your AF journeys. Who knows i might be back if he's got it wrong 🤦♀️
No Afib after all: Hi everyone, well i... - Atrial Fibrillati...
No Afib after all
Thanks for checking in and that's great news!
If I understand things correctly, your first Holter and GP thought you had afib, but on a follow up Holter with a cardiologist, it turned out you never had afib.
Given this, one lesson learned is to never to make an important treatment decision re afib based on either a machine's interpretation of an EKG and/or a GP's interpretation of an ekg.
Cardiologists, and especially electrophysiologists are much more adapt at reading ekg's -- and all things afib -- than your GP, or any device's built in algorithms, be it a 12 lead, Kardia, Apple Watch or in this case a Holter.
I wish you the best moving forward.
Jim
Good News but also take steps now with the GP to find out the cause of your periods if low blood pressure and find out what steps can be used to control that.As low blood pressure will still cause you occasional symptoms like you have experienced, they can feel similar to arrhythmia and aFib events and do need managing in themselves.
Take care , Bee
Thanks, yes they took me off one of my blood pressure meds and it's fine now. No idea why it went low though as I'd been on them for years but i do seem to have a history of it going up and down
It is either AF or not AF.
12 lead ECG is the way to diagnose. It took me about 10 years to capture my PAF on an ECG in local A&E. All other methods failed.
There is a tendency to slap people on anticoagulants willy-nilly.
Best see a Cardiologist with an interest in AF. I am glad you didn’t have AF. 😀
