Second ablation

I had my second ablation on Monday and whilst in recovery I was advised that it had failed and I would be getting a pacemaker in the next few weeks. I also had 6 cardioversions so am looking very sunburned across my chest. What do they mean when it failed? I thought that they would do it and see how I got on afterwards but to say it after the procedure. Does anyone know if there are any fact sheets about pacemakers anywhere? So disappointed.

It failed means that it was unsuccessful in converting your arrythmia (presumably Afib) to Normal Sinus Rythym and you remain in afib. Without knowing more details I can't speculate on your particular reason for the pacemaker, but this is to prevent your heart rate from going too low. Drugs, ablation of the A V node can cause this . The pacemaker will not stop your afib. Best etheral

Good afternoon Kendalghost

There is an information sheet on 'Pace and Ablate' available here: api.heartrhythmalliance.org... as well as an information booklet on pacemakers here: api.heartrhythmalliance.org...

Please feel free to contact our Patient Services Team on 01789 867502 or email info@afa.org.uk if you have any questions or would like any advice or support in the lead-up to, or following the pacemaker implantation. We are more than happy to have a chat and talk things through.

Best Wishes

Katrina.

I had pacemaker after 2 ablations, both helped but AF returned and I was symptomatic and cannot take any of the drugs. Pacemaker has stopped most of my AF without need of AV node ablation. Modern pacemakers can stop AF in some people, for most of the time.

It’s a really easy procedure, far less troublesome than ablation and it was the best thing I ever did so be assured that pacemaker is not open heart surgery and can really help you.

Best wishes

Thanks so much for your message I am trying to keep my chin up but the nurse at the surgery ruined it...........seems like she can see the discharge letter that I haven't seen were it says the procedure was successful which is totally the opposite of what I was told in person on Monday. No one in to answer my calls as it is Friday and at 3.30 they have all gone home.
