Well been a long wait but the time has almost come - due in the morning for Ablation (AFib and Flutter). not going to lie - nerves starting but forcing the positive thoughts through to the forefront. I’ll let you know how it goes post Op (with a bit of luck) and how it goes over the next few months as I’ve found this forum so useful for exactly the same thing

Wish me luck and hopefully will still be up for a bit of Xmas spirit when it arrives 🙏🙏🙏☘️☘️☘️

Good luck tomorrow, and I hope you soon feel as good as I do now after my ablation 10 weeks ago! You’re in good hands, go with the flow and take things very easy for a good recovery. I did very little for a few weeks and hope you’re letting other people cook the Christmas dinner!

Thank you and Xmas dinner will be interesting if my kids have the task but hey they’ve got to start sometime 😂

All the best. I had Afib and Flutter done same day, never had flutter since ,not once. Few breakthrough Fibs but not for ages now. Done June 2022.You will feel scared, naturally, but it's a day in the office for them. Mine were chatting away about the Platinum Jubilee...

The waiting is worst.

BTW do NOT listen to nonsense about being fine in a few days. I directed mine to our patient leaflet, which I had printed out.

You must rest.

Xx

Thank You and I’m listening and intend to be very sensible and give this the best chance

had mine done in June - don’t regret it - gel so much better !

As others have said - take it slowly afterwards

Treat yourself kindly - you can’t see it from outside but heart has taken a trauma and needs time to heal - which it will do fabulously- it’s an amazing organ but please give it time.

Plenty to drink afterwards will ward off low BP

Good luck

I hope it goes really smoothly for you MWIC. The waiting is the hardest bit. I’m having an ablation this morning too! And as everyone says, take it easy. Small steps.

Thanks Rainfern. All done and so far, pretty painless. Spending a night in hospital which is standard here but feeling good after 7 hours. Early days I know!!

Good man. Take is easy. It's been a bit of an onslaught in there so bide your time and take advantage of every offer from family and friends to do things for you. It's vital and hopefully will pay dividends. And with Christmas coming, try and not indulge too much and don't eat late - all helps apparently. 👍🤞

Best of luck. I had my last one done 23rd Dec last year. Was a bit of a damp Christmas but I'm now in normal rhythm so it was worth it.Hope it all goes well for you!

I know just how you feel, my pre up is today with the ablation next week and I'm already feeling a bit more nervous. Good luck, you will feel better after it has been done as you will be more relaxed.

MWIC profile image
MWIC in reply to Kendalghost

Yeah and whilst not the most pleasant thing you’d sign yourself up for it was actually really not so bad and so try not to stress too much on the run up to it and you’ll soon have it done and be pacing the ward like me trying to escape 😂😂😂 (waiting for discharge)

Yes, good luck with the ablation. It's much easier than you imagine. I had one about six months ago and got my life back. Out running again and increased appreciation for life and forest walks. But as everyone here knows, take it easy for the first six months, give your heart time to recover. Do let us know how you get on.

Thanks / great to hear you’re back doing what makes you happy / looking forward to doing some things I haven’t done in some time

You will have had it done by now I expect but all the best. I had mine in August and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I had envisaged. In fact, I felt so well the next day, I overdid it! I've had a few blips but still very happy I had it done. Good luck and it is best excuse to take it easy over Christmas!

MWIC profile image
MWIC in reply to lizzieloo2

Thank you - how are you doing since ?

lizzieloo2 profile image
lizzieloo2 in reply to MWIC

On the whole good. As I said, I overdid it the day after the ablation and had a full-blown AF episode which I also put down to being overtired where I didn't sleep much the night before the procedure and dehydration due to nothing to drink for 14hrs on the day of the procedure. These three things had always been triggers for me in the past. My EP had taken me off Diltiazem 300mg and the PIP 100mg Flecainide after the procedure but then because I had an episode, he put me back on the Diltiazem and told me to avoid the Flecainide if at all possible. I then went 11 weeks before another brief episode of 3hrs which reverted on its own and then 6 weeks later had another episode the same. Before the ablation, I was having episodes every 10 days to 3 weeks so I am feeling positive that things have improved. Had my 24hr Holter ECG monitor and all was fine and I see the arrhythmia nurse in January. How did it go for you?

MWIC profile image
MWIC in reply to lizzieloo2

Sound really promising and very best of luck it continues and settles further - I’ve been having episodes every 2-3 days for some time now so welcoming this improving - back from hospital now and just slept like a log for a few hours - so far so good

I had mine 4 weeks ago, so in recovery now. The recovery leaflet I saw on this forum was so helpful, as it told me what to expect and what to do during these weeks after the op. Just having walks, nothing more heavy duty.

Good luck and have a great relaxing Xmas.

Yeah agree - really useful- planning on being sensible (for a change) - the challenge will be Xmas but life’s for living and I’m going to enjoy - have my 4 slaves erm kids here answering my every whim - life is good🙏

Thank you and yes think it did - back home being pampered by my kids - feeling hell of a lot better than I expected at this point so fighting the temptation of doing stuff tbh but don’t intend to mess it up so will be good (I think haha)

Glad to hear you are up pacing the ward waiting for discharge, I was the same, don’t underestimate the importance of taking it easy as it says in the info sheets even if you don’t feel the need. A few of us have found a recent post helpful, some are in your replies here too.
