I am trying not to panic, I have had a normal cold for just over a week, as is usually the way I have ended up with mucus on my chest, so quite a bit of coughing, I had a fright this morning as the tissue was bloody, this has never happened before.
This is my first cold since pre covid (which I managed to avoid) so its been quite sometime.
One of my meds is Apixipan 5mg twice a day, which I have been taking for a number of years, not had any problems, apart from the very early days managed to hit my hand a a door handle, the bruise came up like a balloon.
I know I am at the tail end of this cold, can't see the doctor giving me anything for it, but not sure if I should see someone anyway..

It was bright red, hard to describe the amount, but the nearest I can think is perhaps a desert spoon size soaked into the tissue, if that makes sense, anyway, I have just called the surgery now, I have an appointment at 11:15 this morning.
Sure it's nothing serious and just the hard coughing causing this but always best to get checked out anyway. Hope appointment went well and you are fine.
Yes speak to your GP today. It’s probably just where you’ve been coughing hard but they really should see you. If that fails and you’re in the UK I’d chat to 111. Hope you feel better soon.
Had exactly the same for months after both getting COVID and for a few weeks after the jab. Very tiny clots in mucus. If any amount of blood then speak to GP.
It went away once I recovered & I have had no more jabs 🤷♂️
May I suggest, if you feel a need to see someone ... that you phone/visit your local Pharmacy and discuss it with the Pharmacist. If your GP surgery is anything like mine you'll be lucky to get a face to face appointment within a week and then you might have to wait a week also, just to have a telephone conversation with your GP.
My experience has been that pharmacists have a greater knowledge of the behaviour of drugs in different circumstances than a GP does. Good luck.
hi, thanks for asking, well, the doctor said most probably the strain from the coughing, but didn’t think it was anything to worry about, I described how it looked. He gave me a short course of antibiotics, (which kicked in really well, hardly coughed since taking the first dose), he did send me to get a chest X-ray, just to rule anything else out.
Sounds like your doc is doing all the right things. I've had a cold, that has turned into an infection too. I had a small blood clot come from my nose, but nose wasn't bleeding and had no trace of blood. I think this cold/infection is doing the rounds as I've lots of friends with it. All caused by coughing I guess. Take care. Jean
Like Jean, I also had a cold a couple of weeks ago, actually more of a severe sore throat but no cough. I also had a lot of nasal congestion and saw bright red blood when I blew my nose. It cleared up after a week or so and isn't a problem now. I also take apixaban.
Had a nasty bout of covid 2022....really bad chesty cough and also found blood in mucus, phoned 111 , who said it may only be strained throat from coughing a lot but to be on safe side sent me to a medical hub...talked to a doctor who then sent me to A&E for chest x ray, . 14 hours later.......all was ok...it was straine from coughing.......but its best to be safe than sorry. The colour of the blood was bright red and appeared after just about every cough.
As I am sure others will have said, red blood in nasal mucus or coughed up phlegm will nigh on always be from a tiny ruptured blood vessel in the upper airways. I wouldn't worry, but I would tell your GP on Monday for reassurance.
Talk to 111. Just to reassure yourself. Probably nothing to worry about. I get little nose bleeds at times. On Apixaban too. I'm sure you'll be fine. I get burst blood vessels in my eyes from time to time, the optician says all is well. You are being sensible asking these questions.
Hi, ok, thanks.. well I am on day two of antibiotics, still coughing quite a bit up, & I wasn’t asked to give a specimen, but I was sent for a chest X-ray .
