Has anyone taken 25mg of Metropolo twice a day! Any side effects?

I have AFIB and a lot of other medications bother me so they are going to try Metropolo twice a day for blood pressure and heart rate! I AM going to do this tomorrow! Any comments I would appreciate it!

Yes, I take 25mg of Metoprolol daily with no side effects.

I forgot to say I take 25mg twice daily, sure I put that and it's disappeared.

Extended release Metoprolol (Succinate) is most often taken once a day. I take 50mg.

Regardless, your doctor knows best. Just continue to monitor your heart rate and blood pressure.

And be tolerant of side effects which will lessen over time. .25 mg is considered a low dose so side effects should be minimal.

My Metoprolol is the same as yours , they said take 25mg twice a day , just started today , so hope it works! I hate taken those other heart meds , they just make me feel terrible and have side effects on most of them!

metoprolol is banned for me

breathless, fatigue, no energy and pauses at night.

do have a 24-heart monitor to determine what metoprolol does

it did not control H/R. 187 DAY

changed to bisoprolol another BB but better for AFERS.

left at 156 h/r day.

went to a priv h/sp. DILTIAZEM CCB 120mg AM controls my h/r now 60s

and bisoprolol 2.5mg PM controls my BP

I take 47.5 Metoprolol twice daily. I tried 95 once daily but found I was very sleepy by mid-morning. Splitting the dose helped that problem. I know it says controlled release (CR) but I've not found it to be linear/even if you get my meaning. No other disadvantages. On the positive side it brought my pulse down to normal levels and my BP was test book (120/80).

Recently my AF changed from 'paroxysmal' to 'persistent'. A cardioversion failed so we've added 120 Diltiazen which seems to be doing a good job, but early days.

I was in the same but not the extended release and it made my heart rate at rest 45-50 and some days I felt washed out. My normal HR is around 65-70 I’ve now gone down to 12mg twice a day and feel much better. I’m hoping if things go well then I’ll reduce again and hope to get off it

A couple of ears ago when first diagnosed with AFib, I was prescribed 50 mg Flecainide twice daily and 25 mg metoprolol succinate once daily. Soon as I began taking those meds, I often felt like I was living with a mild case of the flu. After complaining about that on this blog, somebody suggested the flu symptoms might have been caused by the metoprolol. So, with the blessing of my cardiologist, I reduced the metoprolol to half a pill or 12.5 mg once per day. Feel much better now with no negative consequences from reducing the dosage.

I too am very sensitive to meds and the doctor put me on metroprolol before I chose to have an ablation. It wasn't for long though, when he took me off of it because dropped my heart/pulse rate dramatically. Hoping it does you well.. 🙏🏻

Besides lowering blood pressure and reducing one's heart rate, Metoprolol also tends to provide a calming effect. That is why Metoprolol is often prescribed "off-label" for people who suffer from anxiety and/or stage fright.

I've been taking Metoprolol for years, and my current dose is 12.5 mg twice daily (an extremely light dose). Metoprolol tends to be slightly 'addictive', and stopping it entirely can be somewhat challenging.

I am taking 25 mg Metoprolol Tartrate twice a day along with Perindopril once a day & so far I find that I feel totally drained, exhausted & ready to nod off to sleep around 3 PM every day. Occasionally I feel nausea but that doesn't last long & I have to get up slowly from a lower position to standing up or I get light headed. Still though I like that Meto lowers or blocks adrenaline which I think is helping to lessen my heart palpitations.

I was taking 100 mgs of metoprolol a day for about a year. I believe it had adverse side effects, including making me more susceptible to Afib episodes. My doctors would not confirm (admit?) that.

I am now taking 25 mgs twice daily, as of a year ago. I think that reduction may be part of the reason, along with diet changes and exercise, that I have not had Afib episodes, except during a case of Covid, for a year.

Doctors confuse me: I was originally prescribed the 100 mgs by phone by the after-hours cardiology answering service doctor (the only ones you can reach usually.) who also indicated I should not stay on it too long. No one ever brought up reducing it until I was in the emergency room a year and a half later for heart pain, and they thought I was keeping my BP and HR too low. No one ever discussed specific side effects from it.

I know that my sense of balance and mental alertness improved significantly soon after I stopped taking the 100 mgs of metoprolol, 30 mgs of lisinopril and 5 mgs of amlodipine, and went with just the reduced metoprolol. My BP and HR are fine with it.

(You can always read the pages of warnings that come with the meds, such as: your nose may fall off, you may go blind or may die!)

I’ve taken half a 50mgm Metoprolol twice a day for over 3 years. Not extended release. I’ve only really noticed it when doing freestyle lap swimming. I was used to my pulse going up at the end of a lap. Now it doesn’t and I don’t push it. I’ve just adjusted to going a bit slower.
