5 weeks since AV node ablation

HR set 90 To 130

my blood pressure is up I guess due to stopping diltysem as it also reduces blood pressure

My swollen legs havnt come down as per consultants sales pitch ( wrong wordings I know )

So disappointing so far

Been a hard 3 months

Need some positive thinking moving forward

Go back to get pacer looked at in November

So mayb a tweaking is needed

I can’t go back so I’ve got to make it work

rant over

It can take months for the swelling (edema) to go away after stopping Diltiazem. It did with me.

PS Diltiazem is a weak blood pressure drug anyway. There are better non calcium blocker alternatives if you need them.

Hi

Um. I'm sure you don't mean 'non calcium blocker'. I believe you mean 'there are other CCBs Calcium Channel Blockers'.

I do agree that my 120mg Diltiazem AM controls my H/R. And it has little control of my BP. 180mg Diltiazem first introduced brought my H/R down 105bpm without 2 hours! That was scary !

It is my Bisoprolol 2.5mg PM controls my BP.

It was awkwardly worded, but that's what I meant. For example Ace inhibitors.

That's said there are also other CCBs better for blood pressure than diltiazem, for example Amlodipine. However, amlodipine may also be associated with edema.

Hi

ACE inhibiters were given to me as first line in my hypertension.

But quickly I got the cough and taken off it. Then given Metopolol but when another Dr doubled my dose from 40 something to 90 something I could not breath.

I find Diltiazem excellent as irt was my H/R Rapid which needed controlling.

Is Bisoprolol really a 'fog creating med'

I do recheck some tasks if I don't have the focus what I have set out to do.

This time I'm doing the NZ pre and on the day elections as a Issyuing Officer across the board including Special.

Like Mrjames I think you are expecting a little too much, too soon. Pace and Ablate is not a cure for AF as it doesn’t stop your AF but it should improve your symptoms and quality of life but it takes time for your body to adjust and for you to heal.

I had a PM installed in April and the AV Node Ablation in May of this year. The PM was set for 60 on the low end and 120 on the high end. The problem I experienced was that HR consistently stayed around 80 BPM and when I would take my 1 1/4 mile walk it would only go to 84 and the hill, I climbed would completely take my breath away and still HR of 84-87. I had to go in for an adjustment multiple times and finally I convinced them to alter my settings and after multiple times climbing stairs while they adjusted it on a computer, I could get the rate to 120. Since that time, I am climbing the hill with no trouble and after several walks my HR seldom goes above 100 as my conditioning is improving.

I suggest more patience and exercise that will help you long term. Good luck in the future.

Guess there is adjustments to be made
