After a long think I agreed and now am four days post pacemaker insertion. I cannot hardly believe the difference this has made to how I feel. I would describe it as dramatic and significant. Most days I would feel that I was at the end of the road as my breathlessness was so bad 24/7. Since having my pacemaker this breathlessness has vanished and I don`t need any meds. I can walk and as long as I don`t exceed the parameters for recovery feel wonderful. I don`t think I realised how bad it was I just trudged from one day to the next hoping I would improve(I didn`t!). I only had to wait for 2 weeks after agreement for this to be done, and he opted for a dual chamber pacer in case it did not work as expected. I knew from research I had done that dual chamber devices had better outcomes so. Here I am and wish I had done it last year but at least I had time to make the right decision for me.

It is so good to hear this news and for you to post it on the forum. Many, including me, have expressed fear of having this procedure.

I understand your fear of this procedure but for me things got so bad I thought I would not make it to Christmas. I do feel so much better with the pacemaker and was able to clean my Windows where as before the very thought of this would floor me. I have now received my appointment for the AV node ablation for 23rd November so they are not wasting much time. Not enough for me to pull out - which I won't. I will post again after this date.
Good to hear it has made a difference already.

I am so pleased you are feeling so much better. I have a vested interest in this as I am having a pacemaker procedure on 29th November. It is not so much that I feel as poorly as you obviously have been, but more because I have become a virtual recluse because I am so scared of an attack starting anywhere and anytime, and I almost always end up in A&E because my heart rate is so high. My daughter said she would not be able to leave her new baby with me, and that feels really sad for me. I know we try to carry on coping with this debilitating illness, and as you have found, you didn't realise how hard it was, until it got better. Very best wishes.
I hope it works for you. I too have a high heart rate and so have to have an AV ablation soon. Although this will leave me reliant on my pacemaker it will make my life better for settling my heart. Not perfect as it does not cure the irregularity, but my EP said that the chances of my returning to "normal" given my age 74, and, I have been in persistent AF for three years now, the chances of my having a normal rhythm were very slim. I could pursue a different procedure but how many times do I have to be told before I believe them?
I too started off with a very high heart rate and just deteriorated over three years until I gasped for breath as the high heart rate was weakening my heart.
I hope yours goes well. I can`t say it is a walk in the park. I am now at day 6 and am just coming to get back to a normal life but I still have the high heart rates but the pacemaker HAS made improvements so onwards and upward !!!

Hi, I have just picked up your post and wondered how you are 3 years post Pace and Ablate. I am having my implant in two weeks time, with the ablation to follow and looking for reassurance from people who wear the T Shirt!
No problem though my breathing is no better. He did another pvi but now I have been discharged as they cannot help me ablative further and I am not fit for surgery, if I could get it but the pandemic put paid to that.
