Amlodipine can be horrible. Nothing was right about my body when I was on that I was so sick. Evidently I did not tell my doctor just how sick because when he saw me he took me right off of it. Although originally I was supposed to be on it six months I only made it to four. I was also put on a diuretic. It is amazing how much fluid you can retain and not be aware of. I did not have the usual swollen feet, etc., but I did have it in my lungs and chest area. It is nothing to fool around with. Please talk to your doctor immediately

That’s what they had me on but it wasn’t enough even though I seemed to be in the bathroom all of the time which was miserable. They had to extract the fluid from me. That was after the aggressive procedure a year ago, April.

Diltiazem did it to me, but not amolodipine, which is another calcium channel blocker. I also notice you're on the diuretic Furosemide. Have you had fluid retention issues in the past? In any event, advice is see your doctor ASAP because edema (swelling) can have several causes, some quite serious.

Edema can be a real problem and the build up of fluid taxes the heart so needs attention therefore I would suggest back to your GP or Cardio. This happened to me months ago, out of breath, cough and dizzy which thanks to taking a diuretic 20mg has settled down although now ive got a real painful kidney so looks like I shall have to visit the GP!!!

Three members of my family (including me) did not respond well to Amlodopine. It’s a cheaper, first line medication. We all transitioned to indapamide, which suited us. I’ve heard many other people speak about the effects of it making their calves thick - as it did me. You’ll find many posts on here speaking about the side effects of Bisoprolol, and breathlessness is a common side effect recorded on the BNF (the GPs ‘bible’ of medication). Sounds like you need a medication review to me.

Talk to G P. It could be a build up of fluid. You're already on a diuretic, furosemide, to get rid of fluid but you may need the dose changing.

Is it just the tops of your feet? I get that .The diuretic Spironolactone ( a potassium saving one makes it worse). When I get up in the morning they are fine but as the day progresses they get worse. The strange thing is whenever I have an anti-biotic for another reason, it does not happen. I don't take Verapamil as that was thought to be the culprit. My GP and Cardiologist have no answer and aren't particularly concerned, as no other swelling. legs, arms abdomen. just the tops of my feet which since I also have a high instep, limits the shoes I can wear - I wish there was an answer.!

Hi Rainy

You are on a diuretic Frusemide already. It should be stopping the swollen feet.

Do tell your Dr.

Swollen feet shows that you have fluid around your body including heart which is dangerous to stay like that.

On occasions when a long drive and in heat give me swollen feet I raise feet at night, during the day. It goes down within days.

I know it must be frustrating because it affects you by preventing you walking normally and you say you have breathlessness.

Are you asthmatic? Keep hydrated.

Take care JOY. 74. (NZ)

Hi my situation was very similar to yours swollen feet, calfs and short of breath, i was on Bendrofluthiazide, Bisaprolol 2.5mg and Amlodipine, i had an appointment with a Consultant who changed my meds to Furosemide 40mg once daily and stop the Bendro and increase the Bisaprolol to 5mg twice daily and stop the Amlodipine, very quickly the swollen feet/legs subsided and my breathing became a lot better, he thought the Amlodipine was causing me more harm than good, incidentally he asked how long had i had been on these meds which was about 14 years, the GP just gives you the prescription and you think your are doing the right thing taking them, in fact the consultant stated your meds should be evaluated every 6-12months, in conjunction with blood tests etc, just my experience hope this helps.
