ablation

May I ask those who’ve had an ablation whether you have any co morbidities eg coronary heart disease? I have read that ablation is only considered appropriate for those with an otherwise healthy heart. My PAF is becoming more frequent and have been told I am on a 39 week wait to see a cardiologist, having been recently re referred by my GP. If there’s little or no chance that they will consider it due to my CHD then I may as well wait and carry on taking the drugs.

Hi Frootbat. I’m having a first ablation in 2 weeks time. They are taking precautions, using a specialist piece of equipment that takes internal echocardiograms to ensure there are no clots around previous scarring from a hole in heart op many years ago. If you want a quicker answer I’d pay for a private consultation- especially if you can find an EP who works across both private and NHS. It helped me because you get a good half hour to discuss all the options and I was seen within weeks, not months.

I had an ablation Feb.I don't know if having 14 year old stents counts as CHD .No actual problems with CHD but I did ask the question re the stents being a problem and told not.

I have a healthy heart, but started having raging AF 2-3 times a week, lasting 24-36 hours. I escalated my treatment by paying to see a cardiologist privately (£250). Well worth the money, as it radically reduced the wait time for a first consultation on the NHS and got me onto the ablation list much faster. Quite a few visits to A&E and stays on the ward helped immensely too. Keep pushing or you easily get overlooked. He who shouts loudest gets seen first.

Thanks. I’ll ask for a private consultation.
