Post ablation arrhythmia

I had an ablation May 2016, this morning my heart went into some sort of arrhythmia for about 4 or 5 seconds then resolved back to NSR, I'm a bit worried, has anyone else experienced this sort of thing post ablation?

I'm sure that many have experienced this. Don't forget that we AF ers are highly tuned into our hearts activities. I had a funny few seconds this morning...never gave it much thought

I'm getting towards nine years post my last ablation and get loads of arrhythmias, just none of them AF thank goodness. Easy to say I know but move on! We all pay far too much attention to what our hearts are doing.

Please can you tell me what is the difference between arrhythmias and AF, i thought they were one and the same?

Atrial fibrillation is an arrhythmia but not all arrhythmias are A.F . Not by a long chalk. Arrhythmia is anything not Normal Sinus Rhythm (NSR) and this can include ectopics, (missed or extra beats) tachycardia (fast heart rate) or even bradycardia (slow heart beat). There are also some regular irregular rhythms rather than AF's irregular irregular non rhythm. Huge subject! Some really rare ones out there as well we won't even think about.

AF is generally considered to be the most common arrhythmia.

My 2nd Ablation July 2016 and yes feel some fluttering at times, usually at sit down and rest time (more aware of it then I assume), more or less every day, lasts a minute or so. I'm used to them now. In the last month or so had a couple of elevated heart rates, 80 ish instead of 60, 15 minutes or so, does make me feel 'off' and light headed but still in sinus rhythm. Have to see how these go. Sounds like you are 'normal'.

I had ablation January 2016. About one week later I went into atrial flutter and clocked a steady, but much too high pulse while walking, but it passed after about three weeks. I get occasional arrhythmias triggered by running, or during the first 20 minutes of exercise, but they normally pass. I only detect them because I use a Polar watch/monitor with a chest strap. They are now mostly under control, except for running. My EP suggested that I should not get concerned about the odd very brief arrhythmia episode, so I try to disregard it. Good luck!

Thanks for replies, sounds like the odd episode of arrhythmia is nothing unusual, tend to get a bit obsessive about it all, time to make an effort to move on!

I still get arrithymias also and had my ablation in March 2016. Mine is induced by gluten/wheat, alcohol and sometimes too much sugar but they are only short lived except with gluten/wheat which I have been free of since April 2016 other than one try a couple of months ago and I had continuous but not threatening arrithymia for 5 days after. I learned my lesson after that. Take a look at what you are eating when you get it. Also, aspartame will get it going for me too and it will last for a day but not dangerous just annoying.

I've heard about looking a diet and am therefore trying this approach. I find milk can bea trigger due to the calcium. I'm also trying the get the magnesium and potassium right. Is anyone else taking this approach.

I do apply a magnesium chloride gel topically twice daily but Magnesium supplements I've tried orally have set my heart off into extra beats but topically I can handle it. I am unable to drink milk but not because it bothers my heart, it causes me to get exczema so I do have an allergy to it. I think that any inflammatory foods/ingredients can possibly be triggers for the heart.

Thanks needlestone. I have heard a lot about nutrition and lifestyle to help with AF. I will continue down this road in addition to ablation

Yes the 6 second thing. By the time you have managed to feel your pulse, it switches back to normal. Had a few incidencies over the Christmas period. Could be the extra alcohol or just the fact that we are sitting around longer, watching TV. I tend to get tachycardia and I have had 2 ablations.

I'm just 6 months post second ablation. I have experienced 4 AF episodes and these now seem to be calming down and they are now just ectopic beats. I'm told to expect this during blanking period than can be 3 -4 months I believe. The good think I'm off the drugs but like you still worried. However every one tells me that this I normal so just keep going it will get better. Due to the AF episode I. May need a third ablation. We will get there.
