Dronedarone

Anybody on dronedarone? I've been given 1.25 mg bisoprolol. I'm being monitored on a virtual ward and my heart rate has dropped to 50. Doctor says only medication left to try is dronedarone but I'm really nervous about it as amiodarone made me so ill.

Multaq (dronedarone) is a different drug to amiodarone and for a start does not have iodine in it. It was highly rated when it came out but fell from grace partly due to inapropriate prescribing. Over the last two or three years I have noticed a resurgence of use but have no personal experience of it.

I've been ok with it for over two years now. It's been a great bonus for me.

Here's a summary I did last year, and I must update...

I have been on Donedarone for 18 months now and have had no problems with it. I hope it works well for you.

I had issues with amiodarone so they switched me to dronedarone for the ablation procedures I had last year. Off all meds now but had no issues on dronedarone when on it (over a year in the end). Didn't help tye AF at all (i was persistent mind) but no unwanted effects.

yes, I have been on it for 2 years when Flecainide stopped working for me. I have had a few breakthroughs but has converted by itself. No real problems. Good luck.

Ive been on dronederone 3-4 years now 2x400 per day along with 1.25 bisoprolol, so far so good, keeps things a bit quieter ,but not a cure by any means.

Hi, I had a convergent hybrid procedure in April this year after 2 years in persistent AF. Was prescribed Dronedarone (400mg twice daily) and had no side effects at all. Went into sinus rhythm for the first time on 21st June and have remained there ever since (10 consecutive weeks now). I’m told that Dronedarone is very effective at keeping the heart in sinus rhythm. Certainly works for me. Keith

I was fine on it except it did not work for me so cardiologist took me off it again.

Hi Norfolk spaniel , I’ve been on dronedarone since my last cardioversion in October 22 . So far I have remained in sinus rhythm with no side effects , but I’m also on 2.5 mgs bisoprolol which I feel has reduced my exercise tolerance . That said , it is far better than being in persistent AF , as I was before this .

I had dronedarone previously after I went off amiodarone due to worsening vision and it worked for almost a year before I had breakthrough persistent AF . As Bob said it’s nothing like as toxic as amiodarone , and is definitely worth a try . Where I live it’s only available from the hospital and you are well monitored with blood tests monthly fur the first 6 months and 3 monthly thereafter .

I tried it but episodes became longer and daily. Now on flecanide still daily episodes but down to around 2 hours. You will get regular bloods and ECG.
