Hi! Like so many others I was changed from Apixaban to Edoxaban because of cost when I changed surgeries and was just wondering if anyone else has noticed a difference with bruising?
I didn’t notice anything significant before, but now, the smallest knock and the bruising is a bit dramatic! 😳😬

Well, I'm on Warfarin and have been so since Jan 2010 .... I'm constantly bruising - have no idea of what I've done to facilitate it. No idea.
It doesn't bother me - at least I know Warfarin is working.

I’m on Edoxaban and never had a problem apart from once in recent months but I deserved to have colourful bruising I guess as I do things I shouldn’t according to the profession medical profession (but climbing is so addictive….and it confirmed the Edoxaban is working 😄)
I've decided that vacuuming should be put on the banned list of things you shouldn't do. If I bang myself against the vacuum I'll get a bruise; that's why my husband does it 😂🤣.

Edoxaban for me too + no bruising issues….unlike when I was on Ticagrelor!
As already having had 2 TIA's, I've just been changed over to Edoxaban 60mgs (from Aspirin and Clopidogrel) for the last 5 years.I haven't started it yet, as living alone and what with it being a bank holiday weekend, previous experiences with "new" drugs, caution me to wait until Tuesday.
However, what I wanted to say, was that my Cardiologist pre-warned me that bleeding, internally and externally was increased on Edoxaban, as was bruising, so to limit activities that carry a significant risk of physical injury . . .
Definitely not looking forward to going on this medication, as I have mobility issues and have frequent falls !!
Any comments welcome . .

Because as I just wrote, I've had 2 TIA's the last one being being 10 days ago.Guess my Cardiologist of the last 4 years, figured, that my having Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, Ischemic Heart Disease with 3 stents and Microvascular Dysfunction/AF.
Plus, CKD Stage III and insulin dependent diabetes, was a bit of a worry.
Guess he worked out I presented as high risk . . Is that not enough of a reason to make a change ???
I 🙏 you’ll be ok. It’s just in doing the gardening that I seem to bump myself without even feeling it at the time!!
At least it’s an anticoagulant!
Hopefully you will have no problems and if you do there are alternatives you can try.
I think bruising easily may be individual physiology and age. I am just on Flecainide no ACs and have noticed for some years now how easily I bruise. I recently went for a 'MOT' to a dermatologist and mentioned this, he dismissed my concerns as not unexpected, I am 70yo.

Yes. I was changed from Rivaroxaban to Edoxaban a year ago, and the slightest rub or knock on my hands and arms and I’m covered with a not very delicate shade of dark purple bruises which last for ages. I just try to cover them with concealer, it helps a wee bit.

I have the problem with bruising and most of the time no idea how? I bought a tube of Arnica cream and it’s brilliant , the bruising goes in less than a week.
I have a tube of that in the cupboard which I forgot all about! Will give it a go. Thanks croylass 👍.

Been on Edoxaban nearly 3 years after a stroke. No bruising unless I knock myself which would happen prior to taking them. I usually rub the area quite hard which seems to lessen the effect.

I’ve just sent a repeat prescription but have added a note about this for my GP in the hope he’ll change me back to Apixaban. Watch this space 😳

I was initially on Edoxaban as a precaution after the diagnosis of PAF. I cannot say I routinely saw bruising through the course of daily life. However, i am a keen climber, I discussed this with my cardiologist and he was ok for me to continue - just wear a helmet and no soloing ie. use ropes; always do both. Inevitably, I picked up knocks and bruises, as well as cuts but it was all manageable.
Edoxaban has now been withdrawn, I was under the threshold for anti coagulation anyway and my PAF is stable; no sustained arrhythmia for quite a few years.

Not withdrawn! They changed me over because of price!!

Withdrawn for me, it is prescribed in the UK. In fact, if my Afib comes back with any regularity, I will have to start taking it again.

I bruised easily before taking Edoxaban and have noticed no difference since taking it for the last 9 months except from when blood taken for testing. I think I have already posted on here that the first time I had blood taken after starting Edoxaban inside my elbow a great bruise came up around 6 to 7 inches. When I mentioned this in passing to my physio she said press the area firmly for about 10 minutes afterwards and I have done this since and had little or no bruising. ( the nurse usually only presses it for a minute or less but I press it myself and then go out the room and continue to press it.) So perhaps pressing the area if possible when one has a knock could help?

Hi, I have only ever been on Edoxaban (about 15 months) and have never had any issues with bruising or particularly troublesome bleeding from shaving nicks or diy cuts
I haven't noticed any increased bruising with Edoxaban after being recently changed from Warfarin, however I understand the prescription is 30mg if you weigh under 60kg, and 60mg if you're over.
I weigh 62kg but have been halving the 60mg tabs because I also take low dose aspirin.
I have been told to stop the aspirin as it's not recommended with other anticoagulants, but I'm also battling prostate cancer, and aspirin triggers the synthesis of resolvin. I won't go off subject and explain why it's important (vital according to some) but have decided to risk the mix of anti-coags and improve my chances against cancer metastases. On balance, I think these are probably more dangerous.
Every day's a bonus, don't waste it.

Hmm, I’m on Apixaban, because I was put on Dronedarone which increases the effect of it, I now only take 1/2 Apixaban twice a day. STILL bruise something chronic 😵💫 only have to knock myself and I’m bruised, in fact at the moment I look as if I’ve been abused ! 😵💫
I know what you mean! I currently have a huge bruise on the inside of my knee and that could only have been caused in my sleep by my other knee! Crazy! 😳
I have beautiful bruises which started the moment I began with Apixaban. no difference with Edoxaban now.
Hi, ive bruised easily all my life. Since having A F for about 8years i eventually was put on Edoxaban. November 2021 i fell coming out of the loft,the ladder slipped. I broke a lower rib. I was black through the bruising from my ribcage to down into my thigh. Couldnt walk properly for about 3 weeks, also lost a stone in weight. It was agony.
The irony of it was i,d been trying to get a tradesman to put a loft ladder in, but they couldnt do it until January.
That’s an awful story. I know that we will bruise more easily on anticoagulants but I didn’t notice much of a difference on Apixaban.
Now I’m on Edoxaban, it’s the tiniest bump or squeeze of flesh and that’s it, purple the next day!😬
Its not a diet i,d recommend. Ive had quite a few accidents in my life-still here lol-but this was the most painful!
You need to investigate that, I’ve always bruised easily too, now find I’ve got genetic liver disorder Haemochromatosis. I think vitamin K is involved.

I was changed from aspirin to rivaroxaban some time ago. I was told to question unexplained bruising which I have had to do just twice in all that time. If it's worrying you, a phone call with your GP might allay any fears you have. Always best to ask. Good luck.
I wonder if there’s a period for your body to adjust? I have been on the Xarelto from day one and in the beginning it seems like I bruised, no matter what I did, and the bruises were bad. When I fell down and hit the palms of my hands on the dirt, my hands turned black on that side. A fall banging my shin spiderwebbed all the way to the top of my thigh. Now I will get a spot here in the air of a bruise but that’s it. Nothing dramatic like it used to be. I’m not sure when it changed.

Of course, it is. We are all different. It’s no different than how someone can take aspirin and someone cannot. I’ve been told I have very thick skin. In fact, they have trouble drawing blood if they don’t know what they’re doing. You know your own body if the bruising is extreme enough to concern you then call your doctor. They have options like other meds and maybe you need a different one. Just please don’t stop taking one I would rather have a bruise than a stroke and I’m sure you feel the same.

Yes here I go bruising terribly, brain fog, joints hurt, blood in urine and lots of bleeding for the slightest thing.
