Dabigatran and severe bruising.

Does anyone else take Dabigatran and suffer severe bruising at the slightest knock? I find it particularly bad on my shines. Sometimes just a touch against a door etc will result in painful bruising.

Hi Earledavis :-) I think severe bruising goes with the territory when you are taking any anticoagulants . It's logical isn't it, anticoagulants alters the clotting ability of our blood and that includes not just when we bleed externally but when we have a bleed into our tissues too.

I put an ice pack on bruises, it seems to help.

ED :-) if you have been on anticoagulants for some time and there is a sudden change in the effects like the bruising has become worse I would discuss it with your doctor .

I have been taking Pradaxa for over 3 years and don't have a problem. It was worse when I took warfarin.

This does sound excessive. I've not noticed any increase in bruising, but am on Rivaroxiban, not Dabigatran. Taking a good amount of Vitamin C (500mg twice a day,for example, for three months) may strengthen the capillaries, or perhaps Dabigatran is too strong for you for some reason. If it were me, I would definitely discuss it with my doctor.

Thank I have booked an appointment with the doctor.

I do bruise more easily on this medication. If concerned discuss with a health professional

Hi I am on pradaxa 150 mg twice per day. However only since 4rh January this year I have been amazed that I have not seen any bruising issues despite having walked into a open drawer last week. I also have not seen any noticeably eorse bleeding from shaving cuts or bleeding gums. But maybe I am not on it long enough. Yet

I'm on Dabigatran and haven't noticed this amount of bruising, but take the lower dose of 110mg instead of 150mg. I'm a low stroke risk, so my cardio is happy for me to take this. Don't know whether this would apply to your risk level - or make any difference to your bruising, but am just mentioning it in case it would be an option for you.

Thanks Kath

My cardiologist did reduce my dosage from 150mg twice daily to 110mg twice daily but did say that he did not think it would make much difference. I do not see my EP until May and my doctor does not want to do anything before I speak to the EP first.
