I was diagnosed with agib in November, had successful cardioversion in April and I've maintained a sinus rhythm.
I'm asthmatic, since childhood (I'm 63 now) and I find that my ventolin inhaler sends my heartbeat haywire. Does anybody else experience this and does anybody know an alternative to ventolin.
I see the nurse specialist next week and it would be nice if I had a but of a plan.
Thanks
Tom.

hi there Akyakaboy, I had the same problem when I was given inhalers on being diagnosed as asthmatic many years ago. I was told to use it before exercise to help open my lungs but it had the effect of making me feel dizzy and raised my heart rate! I haven’t used it since and rely on my brown one alone.
I should also mention I have a similar problem with Adrenalin based injections at my dentist.
It’s a tricky one because the answer is yes but. Yes it can, but AF generally won’t kill you whereas asthma can and does. I have a combined long acting inhaler - Duoresp Evohaler which is my surgery’s cheaper alternative to Symbicort I think - so that I only use my blue inhaler in what appears to be an emergency. I assume a constant trickle of medication is better than a sudden blast. Hope that helps.
As a bronchodilator, salbutamol replaced isoprenaline many years ago because, unlike the latter, it had much less effect on the heart, but it still does cause mild tachycardia in sensitive people or if used heavily, and this, in prone individuals will, I imagine, spark AF.
