It’s been 5 years since I had my ablation, for super ventricular AF.
Please read my past posts I’m posting this update for others to gain confidence if considering an ablation for me it worked. I’m fine now but had to stop drinking any alcohol as soon as I stopped the little bit of af went away again, last year I tried to have a beer and was fine until a week in then for the first time in 4 years I had palpitations so I stopped completely and I’m fine.
I found by not having caffeine, alcohol and eating too a bigger meal to be my biggest things to help me.
I hope that this update will help someone

Thanks for posting this, it’s so good to hear how successful ablation has been for you. I hope you have many more years of being free of it all.
Please can I ask, did you have SVT and Afib?
It’s interesting about the alcohol too. I haven’t touched a drop for nearly two years and it certainly must have been a trigger ( I’ve had AF for 18 years & my burden is currently very low, fortunately).
Yes I found alcohol to be my biggest trigger unfortunately. One thing I did find out by chance was even the injection when visiting my dentist made my heart race, this was my normal when visiting my dentist until I mentioned it, after all it would only pound for about 40 seconds and then fade.
I was told that there are two types one with alcohol and one without so the next visit I reminded them to give me it without, and sure enough I was fine for the first time.
it’s really encouraging to hear Donkster, that you had both SVT and Afib as I too have similar, with AF, A flutter and some organised Atrial tachycardia ( I’m told) thrown into the mix. I have been offered an ablation, even though they are so infrequent and I am very tempted but seeing how this year pans out first. I know it’s never going to go away on its own though.
Yes, definitely worth getting that adrenaline free jab at the dentist 😊
one more thing don’t over eat I mean if you eat a large meal it’s going to not help, in fact I’ve cut out eating midday, I only have a small bit and a warm drink
Thankyou, yes, larger meals were also a trigger for me. I never over eat now and try to eat at the latest by 7.45. If I go later, I get nervous! Always leaving at least 3 hours before sleeping too. It’s a regime, but worth it.
