Angiogram and Right Cath.

I was in hospital last week for tests to see if I could have a Triclip procedure or open heart as

I have severe triscuspid regurgitation. My cardiologist had referred me for these tests and said once they were done, the team of dr’s would discuss the results and give an opinion. I had an angiogram, Toe, ECG and a cardiothorasic review with a surgeon.

I had previously asked my Cardiologist if they would do a right catheterisation as I have pulmonary hypertension and was told the right side off my heart was affected. He said yes I’m sure that will do that.

On meeting the Dr doing the Angiogram, he said he was going in through my wrist, I questioned about the Cath, as I know that’s through the groin but he dismissed what I said and it went ahead through my wrist. Fortunately the angiogram was normal, no stints.

On meeting with the Surgeon the discussion came around to my pulmonary hypertension and he said if that was ok, as I have no other health issues I should be able to have open heart, as I’m not keep on the clip, I already have a pacemaker and with open heart they can move my leads from going through the clip and replace the valve. He said why haven’t you had the right Cath done ? I told him what had happened and he said that has to be done before we can make a decision on surgery.

My question is how long after an Angiogram can you have a right catheterisation. They put a dye through with the angiogram and the surgeon said they put another type of substance through with the Cath that measures the pressure.

Obviousley, I’m Realy annoyed that I have to go through this procedure again, the Surgeon said he was going to ring the Dr that did the procedure and my Cardiologist, but that won’t change what’s happened.

Any advice on how long I should wait before having it done would be appreciated.

Did you mean to post this on BHF site? Not really our field here on AF I'm afraid.

I had severe tricuspid regurgitation which required open heart surgery - it was performed 18 months ago. The angiogram procedure which was carried out around six months prior to surgery required simultaneous wrist and groin caths. The surgeon successfully repaired the valve as opposed to replacing it. I still have my AF - otherwise okay.
