Saw my heart consultant last wk told him about cold feet and tiredness he thought coming off bisoprolol would help. Reduce my dosage from 5mg to 2.5 for fornight. so I've done that for last 3 days and what's weird is my BP has dropped from average 124/80 to 117/73, not earth shattering but strange considering what biso does. Also, I just feel completely wiped out for about 3-4 hours every morning, tired, weak and slightly giddy. No other changes to medication etc.

has anybody experienced anything like this?

Hi,

When I was first put on Bisoprolol in January 2010 at 5 mg taken at daytime I did experience coldness of extremeties, hands, feet, fingers for many many months. I also developed random, full flow nose bleeds. Returned to my GP for a moan and advice and she advised to take Bisoprolol at night, which I did. I have had no issues on either count since. I still take my 5mg at night.

Bisoprolol for me has had no impact on my BP at all ........ as much use as a chocolate fire guard ! It has worked ( and still does) great for me at controlling my HR .... which was what it was prescribed for in the first place, nice n' steady still at an average resting rate of around 64 to 67 bpm.

I take BP specific meds for BP control, Ramipril (10mg) and Felodopine (2.5mg) they work a treat holding my BP at around 131/70 which for an old git of 78 - I consider just fine, occasionally it averages a bit lower.

I was always led to believe by my Cardio consultant back in the day that Bisoprolol was a Rate control drug - with some properties that made it useful for BP control BUT that wasn't its primary purpose.

Bisoprolol has not had a negative impact on me, and I take 10 mg. each night which I guess is much higher than most. I haven't asked to have the dosage lowered as it seems to be working fine. I also take Pradaxa.

I had the same symptoms on Bisoprolol since I was diagnosed with AF nearly 3 years ago . It felt like I was taking a sleeping pill would have to sleep half hour after taking it , and the weakness and sweating if I tried to do anything.

I asked our GPs pharmacist if I could try Nebivolol as I’ve read it’s quite popular, but only a cardiologist can prescribe that , so I’m trying carvedilol at the moment, early days but still need that nap .

I switched from B to Nebivolol simply by requesting this of the resident pharmacist at my GP about 2 years ago. No cardiologist was involved.

That sounds about right peteh55 , I must have spoken to a jobsworth . I have to wait until I see cardiologist end of the month .

I was on bisoporol for about 3 years. Initially 2.5 mg but that made me very tired. Reduced to 1.25mg but that didn't seem to be solving the problem as my AF got worse in late 2022 and first 8 months of 2023.

Solution that worked for me was having an ablation in early Sept. It was successful for me and I feel so much better. Have not had an alcoholic drink since 6 Sept 2022. Not taking any chances with alcohol and drinking decaf tea and coffee. It is worth it. If you are AF paroxysmal, I would recommend it. Tell you doctor you condition is worsening if that is the case.

Your decision

Regards

Hi nakuru8

I had an ablation march 22 and am still in sinus rhythm.

I understand that some patients have more than one ablation if the first doesn't work. My son's fiancées mother worked as a nurse and advised me that a very well known retired cricketer had 6 ablations.

I had my ablation Aug 21 and have been in sinus rhythm since. Had a few episodes of Ectopic beats which seems to be brought on by certain foods/drinks which I now avoid (caffeine, alcohol, excessively sugary things like donuts and weirdly bananas). Originally on 10mg of bisoprolol and was like a walking zombie with constant tiredness, dr then reduced it down to 5mg and fingers crossed it has done the trick. Hope you find what works for you but I would highly recommend an ablation if your quality of life is suffering

How long have you been taking bisoprolol? I was diagnosed over a year ago and put on it. At the time I took Losartan to keep my BP down but the combination of the two left me with very low BP to the point I would almost pass out when I stood up. GP took me off th losartan. At first I was on 2.5mg bisoprolol and I was totally wiped out and suffered with cold hands and feet. However after a couple of months I adjusted and the fatigue lessened considerably. I now take 5 mg twice a day and have no really ill affects. Could it be you just need time to adjust?

Not what you're looking for?
