When will I test Negative?

Hi,

Tested positive for Covid a week yesterday. Not been that bad really - just normal cold symptoms. We have stayed in and as told tested on days 5 and6 and then 7 and 8 and we are still testing positive. apparently you can test positive for weeks or months post infection. So just a waste of tests! Our son and daughter-in-law who gave us this via one of the people our daughter-in-law works with in her charity shop are testing negative but we are still here with two quite bright red lines on our test strips. Symptoms very mild so after asking for advice from our surgery are going out early morning shopping when there are fewer people around and wearing masks again.

Wonder when we will actually test negative again?

Hi, l tested negative on day 8 but Pete didn’t test negative till day 10. You’ll probably be ok especially as you had it mildly. I’ve not been too bad but Pete has a chest infection. He has COPD so qualified for antiviral meds which did help I’m sure. The coughing is awful as is the tiredness. We’ve not been out for two weeks.

My daughter still tested positive on day 11. She has covid again a year later and feels dreadful. It can be a long job when it takes hold.

Day 14 for me and like you I wasn’t too bad, more like a cold.

thanks for all your replies. we will leave it a few days before trying to test again - maybe next Thursday which will be 2 weeks and see what that brings. Its the dreadful weariness thats getting to me we don't feel that bad just like a cold but so tired. We try to do at least something constructive every day but sometimes we fail - yesterday it was just shopping and making meals.

I was 3 weeks then covid induced lung infection then covid induced pneumonia. Over 9 + weeks

It has left me still can’t be bothered feeling and we had it last September/October

Hope you text negative soon and feel better

The most constructive thing you can do is rest so as to give your body the best chance of recovery! The notion of convalescence seems to have disappeared from society these days.

We have been resting as our bodies want that - so fatigued at one stage it was just like having hepatitis.

Sounds horrible. Hope you are better soon. This is probably the worst time of year to get covid or flu when the body's systems for fighting infections are low at the end of winter.

just be careful to take it easy even when you test negative, I made the mistake of doing too much after covid (April last year, my covid infection also had very mild symptoms) and then was down with long covid for months, it was really awful.

I think I tested positive for just over two weeks, several days longer than my wife. That was at Christmas and still we have catarrhal symptoms and have had several “colds” with one this last week. I feel the covid has more effects on the body than it might seem.

13 days positive for me and I had a light case. I stayed in until I tested negative because I sure didn’t want to be the reason someone else got it. The next person might have had a severe case.

why not get an online delivery to be absolutely sure you won’t spread it to someone who will be very ill. I am a great believer in masks. A proper N95 or PPII. A cloth mask will actually spread viruses because they are not moisture impermeable. However, I am sure you will know that. There is a Covid surge at the moment. 71 deaths from Covid in Scotland last week and hundreds in all UK. The deaths have never stipped for the over 60s. Please, Covid isn’t just like a cold to many. I rarely go anywhere but always wear an N95 mask.i fear long Covid. My life was changed by post viral 20 years ago. It never fully goes away. The common cold even lays me low. Please everyone, take care. No heroics.

These are the masks we have always used. I have a dental appointment tomorrow and have called the dentist and explained the situation but she seems confident to go ahead.
