Hi CDAJ.

I don't know for sure but I'll take a punt at around the £8,000 - 9,000 mark. Maybe a little more / maybe a little less. Just a suggestion but if you can throw a little more in the pot have you considered the Wolf Mini Maze?

Worth a thought and a chat to your Doctor about.

Thank you Paul I have been quoted £13500 for Cyro but pulse is more complicated apparently so advised £ 1000 anaesthetist & would need a cat scan so another £1000 but they won’t give a ball park on procedure. I have PAF my episodes are now around once a month lasting around 30 hours so feel that this is procedure for me.

Sure CDAJ. At that price I would look into the Wolf Mini Maze as well. It's worth checking out and discussing with your Cardio. Maybe PFA is the way forward for you but it's worth asking about a WMM too.

Have a great day.

Paul - RF ablation in 2014 was circa £14-15,000 so I would expect a figure more in the region of £20K? But it’s immaterial whilst it’s still in study stage I guess.

The figures you quoted my guess is came from an article in the Guardian - from 2006.

I used to have access to a web-site which compared ablation costs but sadly I can no longer find it.

Hi CD. Yes, you are right - I have made a mistake with my quote. I understood it to be in the region of 15K but I checked it on Google and the price was between 5K to 8.3K at the London Private Clinic.

However, I've just checked again and I got it wrong - that's for a spine RF Ablation. It will teach me to read the whole website thoroughly before I comment again!

I'll copy and paste something that may be useful to the OP below. I don't have the time to check out the information so it's 'buyer beware'.

Hey, get this. I've just got back from the Doctor and I'm in sinus again. I'm so happy after 12 months of persistent afib it's unreal. Self-converted without a CV - I know it won't last but it's a good sign. I may start a new thread about this but not really got the time today. I think I know the reasons why = lifestyle changes + medical help.

This is indeed a happy day for me.

Paul

There are several websites that provide information on ablation costs for atrial fibrillation (AFib) in the UK. Here are a few options:

Private Healthcare UK: This website provides information on private healthcare in the UK, including ablation costs for AFib. You can search for AFib ablation procedures and compare prices at different hospitals.

MyBreast: MyBreast is a private healthcare provider that offers AFib ablation procedures. You can find information on their website about the cost of AFib ablation procedures.

BMI Healthcare: BMI Healthcare is a private healthcare provider that offers AFib ablation procedures. You can find information on their website about the cost of AFib ablation procedures.

Spire Healthcare: Spire Healthcare is a private healthcare provider that offers AFib ablation procedures. You can find information on their website about the cost of AFib ablation procedures.

In addition, you may also want to check out the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) website, which provides guidance on the use of ablation for AFib in the UK. While they don't provide cost information directly, their guidance can help inform your discussions with healthcare providers about the costs and benefits of the procedure.

Again, it's important to keep in mind that the cost of AFib ablation procedures can vary depending on a number of factors. It's best to contact the hospitals or clinics directly to get an accurate estimate of the cost of the procedure.

Before making your mind up I would read this interesting post from CDreamer a few days ago:

healthunlocked.com/afassoci...

It seems that PFA may be safer than standard RF ablation but it's no more effective in actually curing AFIB. From what I have read the mini-maze procedure may actually be more effective in curing AFIB or at least much longer term suppression. In case you missed it someone posted that there is going to be a public zoom discussion on the mini-maze involving the two world leaders in this field. You may want to tune in before making up your mind:

Thank you. I will take a look but think it is just going to be too much financially.

I have heard quotes from 12,000-20,000 pounds for PFA in the UK. Call the ep department at Royal Papworth Hospital and ask. As to WMM, my understanding is that it is many times more, not to mention travel and lodging, but check with MummyLuv or Saulger (Saul), both of whom who have researched WMM but ended up with similar but less expensive procedures. MummyLuv, I believe in the UK and Saul in Japan. Both seem very happy with their procedures. MummyLuv had hers I think about a year ago and Saul's was 14 weeks ago.

But cost aside, mini maze and PFA are very different approaches, both having plusses and minuses.

I believe MummyLuv paid in the region of £30,000 for her procedure privately.

Not much chance in UK just yet I fear.

Sorry Bob. You could be wrong there! Maybe you are right but I'm working behind the scenes with this one. As a matter of fact I have spoken to someone fairly senior this afternoon about it - my next step is a GP referral then they want to see me in clinic.

It will mean a few days' hotel accommodation but booking dot com will sort that out for me. I'm not holding my breath but so far it's looking OK. As/if/when there are developments I will update the forum regardless of if it's good or bad news.

I've been on this one for a few weeks now. Remember I'm UK based but there is a chance.

The Mini Maze is my go-to. Let's see how it pan's out.

thank you. I have been given a confirmed quote for 14k for cyro but told that the pulse will be above that. So guessing 3kish more because of GA & CT scan.

Had ablation (not pulse field) at Brompton 3/22. Whatever hospital quotes consultant fees etc are on top and depends on whether overnight needed. Very difficult to pin hospital down re costs, but paid about £16,000 without overnight. Any follow up etc if also private will have a cost eg £300 for phone consultation.

CDAJ profile image
CDAJ in reply to2learn

Thank you. I have been quoted just under 14k for cyro which includes a stay plus I have already paid £250 echo & £250 phone consultation.

I will have to pay which is my only option as cannot wait 12 months + for NHS.

Hoping that as I am forced to pay that I can have pulse and although probably 5k ish on top of the above it is the best option for me.

Thanks

Back in 2016 I was quoted £9,000 - that was without hospital costs which can easily add £1000 a day. I imagine it will be maybe at least a couple of thousand pounds more expensive by now

Thank you. I was thinking that I’m not going to get much change from 20k for pulse ablation but I can’t wait another 12 months plus for a cyro on the NHS.
