Blood pressure higher in the evening

Normally I take my blood pressure in the morning at about11 o'clock. I am on medication , I take ramipril a diuretic and bisoprolol (2.5) at night and another bisoprolol in the morning at 11. I have discovered that my BP is normal at 11am (120/80) but sharply increased in the evening at 19:00 (160/110)

Anybody know why this should be?

Sounds like dinner isn't good for you? Never take your BP within an hour of eating. Always sit quietly and relax for ten minutes before attempting a reading, Then take a second five minutes later and average the two.

Hi

I was told to take 3 readings and average for a 'RESTING' reading.

Allow 20 mins to relax with rules no talking/moving and the monitor higher than your heart.

I take Ramipril 10mg in morning and 5 mg Bisoprolol at night before bed with all my other evening meds. Bisoprolol is a heart rate control drug which has some properties which some medics find useful for BP control. Bisoprolol does absolutely nothing for my BP at all, absolutely nothing ! Works brilliantly on HR control. Oh yeah .... I also take 2.5mg of Felodopine for BP too with my other morning meds.

My 11 am BP is slightly higher than yours - say 127/72 and in the evening before a meal is up around 136/80. HR is always around 64 - 67 bpm. In this bloody awful cold weather - generally my BP can be even higher at both times of day.

I'm aged 78.

Hi

Interestingly CCB Calcium Channel Blocker works better for Heart Rate

whereas

Bisoprolol 2.5 at night works better on my BP.

123/69 69-88 H/R avg day. 47 H/R avge Night (always with/without meds)

I feel for you, I take losartan and at a check before my colonoscopy last Tuesday, I was shocked to see it was 185/95 - the highest I have ever known it - but the doctor said that was normal and not at all worrying given the circumstances. Phew. Back at home in the evening, the readings started at 138/87 but after three more readings settled at 118/66. I find that I need to take three, not two as usually recommended, readings to get to a steady state. I presume I react and tense up a little even at home.

In your case, did you wait at least an hour after food or any exercise, then sit relaxed, feet on floor, for several minutes before taking the reading? If I don't do that, and even if my arm isn't at heart height, the readings are higher (I often sit at a dining table with my arm on two cushions).

Hi

Interested.

What is your coinsiding Heart Rate at rest during these times?

On CCB AM my BP is high in morning but that is normal. Most heart attacks are high in the morning. But heart rate is low 69 but creeps up without CCB.

I take 2.5 Bisoprolol PM.

Regardless of any meds my heart rate is 47 avge at night!

I've never figured that out.

I have controlled heart rate with AF. Classed as rapid and persistent.

We seem to be all different.

My heart rate varies between 55 and 70 throughout the day, never higher regardless of bp. My AF should probably be classified as persistent verging on permanent. I was advised by doc to take BP meds at night except diuretics due to heart attacks occurring mostly in morning.

Hi

Thanx

H/R controlled.

I have been classified RAPID PERSISTENT and that refers to'H/R.

My systolic goes berserk too and the last highly DHB special said he

noticed a soft systolic heart murmur and that is a new diagnosis.

You are not taking your bisoprolol much earlier in morning and reasonable pm dose. Try 7-8 am and 7-8 pm and see if that changes things,

Why directic med.

Very hard on your body. Removes with water minerals mag and potassium.

So you need to cover those.

Remember exercise after pm meal is excellent. Short, weight loss etc all helps.

Thanks for your advice .I'll try taking bisoprolol a bit earlier. My first efforts with diuretics resulted in a trip to A&E for emergency potassium drip - noone had warned me of the risks. I switched to a different diuretic which is a lot better and I take supplements.

Best wishes. Alex

My BP right now was 177/119 70BPM then it dropped to 148/85 65BPM. This happens all the time. It goes at rest from 187/128 to 101/60 in a real sort time. They don't know why. I have treated AFib , COPD and my neck spinal cord is pinched in 3 places. Waiting for my CT Report and it is not going to be good. Me I think I have Liver Cancer I can see it I have the images. Maybe now they can tell me what is wrong and probably to late! Guess I will know in a few mins! Mark
