I'm due to have an EP study to check for any signs of an SVT and if so to ablate it. I've just read the AF ablation factsheet and was surprised by how long the recovery time was. Does anyone know if the post surgery recovery time for the EP study and/or SVT ablation is similar - I assume so as the heart is undergoing some trauma either way?

EP Study/Possible SVT Ablation
All ablation procedures are not the same. Afib ablation is a bigger and more invasive procedure than an SVT ablation. I believe the fact sheet is more geared to afib ablation. The person to ask about SVT recovery would be your ep, or research SVT ablation specific sources. As to the ep study, I assume catheters are just going into the right side of your heart, but definitely ask your ep. With an afib ablation, they pass into the left side. Again, a bigger procedure.

I've had a PVI ablation and an EP study with ablation for SVT and of the 2 the SVT ablation took less time to recover. To fully recover from the SVT ablation took months , not weeks. The PVI ablation took a few monthe longer to recover. In both cases the heart tissue is burnt and this takes time to heal. For the SVT the EP study had 2 catheters, one each side of the groin rather than 1 for the PVI.
My 2016 ablation for SVT was extensive, as they had to go into right and left side of heart to get all. With the hole in the heart, I did get terrible migraines with aura until that healed. It didn’t scare me as I had already heard about this symptom on this forum. Other than the migraines which faded with time, recovery was not terrible. I was up and about pretty early on. I was only 46 at the time and in good health. I think that recovery time would depend on several factors, such as age and general health overall.
I’m in the same boat, having and EP study and hopefully, an SVT ablation at the same time in a few weeks. It seems that there are likely fewer spots that get zapped with SVT ablation, so theoretically an easier recovery? Hard to know, I guess. May depend on the type of SVT and where they have to ablate. I’ve been told mine is definite atrial tachycardia coming from the left atrium. Apparently hard to trigger it in my case, they’ve tried before. Hope your procedure goes well!!
