Hi everyone I’m due to have ablation 27/8/19 with EP study is they can not provoke an “ episode “ during the EP study they said can not go ahead with ablation ? Has this happened to anyone and also if they can not provoke it, does this mean I don’t have an electrical problem ? Thanks

They have to trigger AF to see where the hot spots are to ablate. Don't worry I'm sure they will find it

Thanks

They have to recreate the rogue signals to isolate them or else they'd be burning off things they didn't need to.

I wouldn't worry, if you're at the point you need ablation therapy the chances are they'll be able to kick it off with probes in the heart.

On one of my 5 ablations, they tried to kick it off to isolate a remaining problem but my body kept putting a lid on it.

In very simple terms, if they are unable to provoke AF, you are unlikely to have AF so don’t worry. Just in case you haven’t seen them already, click on and read the two factsheets below. I’m sure you will find them helpful....

Mine is more SVT it goes from 90 to 160 in seconds and it’s a nightmare

Hi, I’ve got svt and mine jumps say 90 to 160 straight away. I’m waiting for an ablation. I’ve been told that this is a relatively easy one to deal with. I used to be able to reset my hr by lying on my back but over time it got more frequent. I now have to take Bisoprolol (1.25 mg) daily to stop it occurring. Are you on any meds?

As to it going into svt during the ablation I was told they can induce it either with the probe or I think they said with drugs. They didn’t think it was a problem.

Sorry just seen this , not any meds although have tried . I don’t like the side effects at all . I do have flecanide as an emergency tab though if needed .

Hi, if you are ok without any meds then I’d say that was good. I was like this for nearly 3 years. When I got an svt episode I just had to sit down and relax or lie on my back if I could (not always easy). This would reset my hr. When it was like this I decided that I didn’t want an ablation. I got svt when I had an adrenalin rush (anxiety etc) or when very tired (after cycling say 60 miles).

As time has gone on my episodes got more frequent and I found it more difficult to get my hr to reset. I am now at a point where I would be in svt about 50% of the time if I didn’t take my daily bisoprolol. I don’t have any episodes when on bisoprolol but it makes me tired. I’m now on a waiting list for an ablation.

I’m not sure if this helps. I now wish I had opted for the ablation at the first opportunity rather than deciding I didn’t want one.

Awwww that’s a shame that they were tolerable but not anymore. I have 1 bad one a month, I am sick sometimes and blackout and collapse. My ablation which was due 27/8 just been cancelled and re booked for 30/9 which is a pain.

I think what I am saying is that svt and similar issues tend to get worse over time unless treated. I think that the more my rogue electrical signals use the shortcut then the more they do it so the sooner that route is blocked with an ablation the better.

I haven’t blacked out or anything but now I’m on Bisoprolol my hr drops to about 40 on resting so I have to be careful not to stand too quickly or I feel faint. My cardiologist and my gp are aware of this.

Sorry to hear they cancelled your ablation. Can you let us know how it goes. I’m hoping to have one in October.

Will do and yes I had that issue when I tried beta blockers low heart rate. Hence I didn’t want to continue with them and o got really cold fingers 😩

I hope it all goes really well. By chance, I was told yesterday that I would be listed for an ablation, and I’ve been stressed ever since. So your posting was v timely. One of the values of this forum.

I’ve read all the posts, and feel much better informed. Now I can’t wait to hear from you, after the 27th, to hear it’s all gone smoothly.
