SVT or Afib Ablation Recovery

I was wondering if it the same recovery time for both SVT and Afib ablation.

Mine was for SVT.

I have watched several videos on You Tube about people having had ablations for SVT and all seem to recovery quickly but on here a lot if people say it can take months to recover.

Are people's experiences just on Afib or both.

I have been off work for 4 weeks ,2 on sick leave and 2 on Annual leave (holiday) but due back Tuesday.

I work for one of the emergency services so was wondering if fit for front line duty.

That’s a really difficult one to answer because there are so many variables - age, any other underlying conditions -known or unknown, state of your heart structure, expertise of EP in not causing damage - except where meant to, if you are physically fit, not overweight, state of mind and emotion, support systems etc. If everything is going for you, you feel well and you aren’t experiencing any blips then you will probably be ok.

Cautions:- many people who have stressful, physical jobs have staged returns to work because they find they tire much more easily going back full time, full on - I don’t know if you have arranged that with your employer or even it is possible but it could give you a much better chance for successful long term outcome. Kaz wrote an excellent piece a few months back of her experiences of the support from her employer in supporting staged returns.

Don’t be surprised if you feel much more tired, much sooner so plan to get as much rest as possible rather than going out socialising.

If you do feel any blips in your heart then breath, keep calm but if you are able, take a short break but it is often your body ‘talking’ to you and sending the message slow down, give me time to heal.

The procedure is the same, no matter what it was treating but people are all very different in how they respond.

The people who heal quick and get back to work don’t have time or inclination to stick around this forum - it will have served it’s purpose and yeah to that so you will be left with the people for whom it hasn’t been an outstanding success. My experience was I was back to work in 10 days, working part-time in a sedentary but stressful job. I had underlying conditions - unknown at the time which exacerbated a whole chain reaction in my body so it was 9 months before my resting HR returned to anything like normal, I was resctricted on physical exertion - but to all onlooker I was fine, I didn’t look ill and therefore everything was normal.

Wish you a very speedy and successful, full recovery and as and when it does it would be really good if you could remember to post to redress the balance!

I’m curious about this too since I’ll be having an SVT ablation in 2 weeks. From what I can gather, the 2 ablations I’ve already had mostly addressed afib and flutter. (The EP who did those wasn’t big on communicating details, he’s no longer my EP!) The new EP explained far more info about my previous ablations than the guy who did them. Hoping I’m now in better hands and this will finally get rid of the awful SVT episodes. Good luck to w getting back to work. Take it easy, don’t overdo it!

Hi I felt my EP didn't have a lot to say either.

I hope it all goes well

Hi,

You may find the posts of 'jedimasterlincoln' helpful because he is a frontline NHS employee who has posted about working, and also returning to work, whilst being affected by AF.
