How do I stop Afib just after OHS

Hi guys, just wanted to let you know that I’ve had my OHS and to pick your brains please.

The op went well and here’s the but……..

I also have a pacemaker and it was set low on 60+ since May 21. Had no probs.

During this surgery they raised the PM rate to 75+

After this surgery I’ve been in Afib! Various doctors visiting my bed kept saying that I’ve always been in Afib but it was underlying the PM! As far as I and my Kardia machine were concerned not in Afib!

I am definitely in Afib. My resting HR is 85.

So here’s my question guys. How do I stop being in Afib?

obviously I am not moving around very much. Got home from hospital 3 days ago and I know I’ve got quite a long road ahead.

I’m on flecanide twice a day.

obviously I can’t be cardioversion so how do I get rid of Afib 😢

Hi, what was done in the OHS? Usually OHS would not be a contraindication to CV. Only your EP ad surgeon can make this determination. Are you still in the hospital? There is no magic bullet drug that can stop afib available in the U K. The right combination of drugs can usually control it. Best, etheral

I had a new mitral valve (tissue) and a clip to hold tri sorry can’t remember full name and paperwork is downstairs. No I came out of St Thomas’s in London 3 days ago. My op was 16th.

8 days out the practical risks of returning to the hospital probably outweigh the risks of the CV itself, assuming you are hemodynamically stable.Consult your docs. Best of luck, etheral

AF has a mind of its own and I suspect that the OHS has poked the beast. There is nothing you personally can do to stop it, there are treatments but unlikely anyone will do anything until you recover from surgery and hopefully it will then settle.

You might ask the pacemaker clinic why the rate was raised and could it be lowered at your next check. I was very uncomfortable at 75 so got it lowered to 60 which suits me much better.

just to let you know CD that I visited the pacemaker dept yesterday and they lowered my PM to 70. The reason my heart is racing etc is because I’m back in Afib. He got a cardiologist registrar to see me. Taken me off flecanide and put me on Bisoprolol 2.5 daily. As obviously I had to stop thinners for 2 days before op I have to wait 6 weeks from op date then they will give me a cardioversion. So 🤞 roll on 4 weeks now.

I don’t have a pm but I would have thought 60 was a good rate. I am normally about 45-50 which I’m told is low, but when in afib and it goes above 70 I am uncomfortable. If you were happy at 60 then I think I would ask to have my pm turned back to that

Hope you recover quickly

hi, Sally. I had mitral and tri valves repaired and pacemaker inserted Dec21. All went well but after 2 wks develped atrial tachycardia, which can be caused by having a pacemaker or the surgery. So is it that you've got rather than AF. Anyway had big ablation March 22 to get rid of it and so far seems ok no AF or tachycardia. Also has your pacemaker been checked recently cos my AT started after a glich with pacemaker. As for OHS good luck and take it easy. I had no pain etc, but 6-8 weeks doing very little with my arms and chest. You should be offered some cardio rehab after op.
