I went to the dentist today and had an injection prior to some lengthy work. When he administered the injection, I immediately felt a kind of rush and my heart went into overdrive .
I have persistent AF and take Flec and Bisoporol. I have not had any episodes for a couple of months. So this was a nasty shock and I took an ECG on my watch which is attached and it shows a very strange pattern . Any idea on what is going on ? Advice gratefully received.

Some of that is trigeminy, then toward the end it appears more regular again. Trigeminy is not considered a dangerous rhythm, but if new to you or happening often, mention it to your cardiologist if for nothing other than peace of mind. Trigeminy is a form of PVC where you have 2 beats followed by an extra beat, you can see how you have 2 regular spaced beats, then the 3rd comes sooner (that is the one you'll feel). I get bigeminy occasionally, which just means PVCs in a pattern of 1 beat 1 extra beat over and over.
~Indeed I second that as came close to fainting due to effect on heart - I always remind and recheck when having any dental work altho it is written in my notes~
I also had problems in one occasion, after I had received adrenaline based injection at the dentists. It got me problems with one hour delay, I had severe symptoms (tingling and like death white fingertips, nausea, shivering of the body, feeling cold, problems concentrating). After some time, I concluded that I must have been pushed into VT, where the blood flow-rate is very low, so no wonder I had these symptoms. I believe that Martin is right about trigeminy and that short bursts of very irregular line may be getting into VT or SVT for short. Anyway, no more adrenaline based anesthetics for me!
thanks for the replies. I will certainly ask for an adrenaline free injection next time. I am now in sinus rhythm but had a very lousy night with very little sleep.
It should be in your dental records that you have AF. I have to update my record every 6 months. I didn't ask for adrenaline free injections, my dentist informed me that's what he'd be giving me because of my medical history.
Always ensure that you hsve adrenaline free injection. Many years ago my heart rate went alarmingly high with injection at dentist and procedure aborted.
I’m going to write to the dentist to make sure they have the Afib and a warning against epinephrine on my records. The Afib should be there but it seems it was ignored.
