REACTION TO RIVAROXABAN

I have been having an Intramuscular Injection for many years. Since starting on RIVAROXABAN 3 months ago. I am getting approx 5cm in diameter swelling. The swelling is sensitive & sore for around 7 days, then it starts to reduce. Have thought of changing to Apixaban. Very interested in any experience.

I have just put a post on asking if anyone else is on Rivaroxaban and your post is the first I've seen with someone other than me on it...l haven't had any probs but then again l don't know how l can compare it to anything else...l think we take what they give us unless there's a problem...hope you get it sorted...

Hi Ramblingross

I still have the Injection problem.

I also have aching joints and muscles problems. This has crept up very slowly.

We can change as and when we have side effects, to say maybe, APIXABAN.

Within hours of taking Rivaroxaban i had excruciating pains throughout my body. It was stopped by my doctors after 12 days. Now I'm back on Warfarin. I eat what I want, which doesn't include cranberries as I never liked them. I have my own Coaguchek INR monitor.

I'm not seeing any side effects with Rivaroxaban as yet....sorry it didn't agree with you tho...it would appear that it's somehow not the same sort of drug as Apixaban and others l have read about...

I am happy on Apixaban and it seems to be well tolerated by most but as with any medication, we all react very differently. I have frequent blood draws and hardly ever bruise or bleed. Trouble is that you won’t know if that is the cause of your swelling until you change something to see what happens.

As I see it the difficulty with Rivaroxaban is absorption as it needs 500+ calories high in protein and fat to be absorbed and metabolised. I don’t think enough information is given on the subject but I also believe it incumbent upon ourselves to do our own research and be active agents in our treatment plan and NOT always rely solely only on Doctor’s prescribing.

I have found that an informed patient will often result in an informed consultation. Knowing the right questions to ask is the key.

I have been taking Apixaban for nearly 4 years following insertion of a 2 lead pacemaker for sick sinus syndrome. Have had no trouble at all. Blood test annually so it works for me. Everyone is different, but go with your (excuse the pun) heart.

Best wishes

Carol
