back in September I had an echocardiogram and was advised that I had aortic stenosis, still waiting for an appointment with the rapid response cardiology team.
However on Monday I went the to the surgery for a diabetic check up, on arrival I was gasping for breath, the nurse was concerned and called the doctor in, I was the given an ECG, which after some debate the doctor decided because my blood pressure was sky high and my ECG showed an
Irregularity, it was decided to call an ambulance and taken to A and E, never again I got home at 8-30 pm I had every test known to man and the doctor decided I did not have a heart attack, thank goodness .
To sidetrack for a moment, I am in total awe of the doctors and nurses, they were brilliant.
One young doctor was running from patient to patient, I was treated with courtesy and kindness in very obvious overwhelming circumstances, please help our NHS before it collapses.
Now I am still waiting for an appointment, but I can ring after Dec the 1st.
Breathing is still bad even sitting down my husband remarked about my heavy breathing, and he is very deaf.
On a good note my AF has been good very little activity there.
Just thought I would have a quick share of my ongoing problems in case someone can help me.

It sounds as if you may need the valve replacing but Im not medically trained.Did you have an echocardiagram? Where you have a scan similar to ultrasound and they get images and pictures to look at.Lots of people have valve replacements I may need one myself one day as one of mine is genetically faulty. Its not a little proceedure but as far as I can see it makes a huge difference.
Thank you for response, I had an echocardiogram and was told I have stenosis of the aortic valve, also type 2 diabetes , AF, osteoporosis, arthritis, and am wondering if these plus my age of 82 will go against me.
Had a message from my surgery today saying the doctor wants an urgent telephone conversation with me at 9am on this Friday
My quality of life is poor at present, even with the arthritis etc, if I could breath I’m sure I would find life easier. Spend most of my time sitting in my chair, get up do a little light work and need to sit down again.
Hopefully will have some more information on Friday?
I am right there with you about quality of life again. I had just spent over five months with a heart rate of 158 or thereabouts constantly. I had a cardioversion and it was amazing how good I felt. I think we forget what good feels like until we get it back. I’ve heard the saying pain has no memory. I argue that because the minute my heart rate hit tachycardia again oh did I remember how bad it felt. Best of luck I’m just like you trying to get things done but even putting laundry in the washer takes my breath away.
since my a fib reactivated Saturday I am right back to the breathlessness when I get up and move about at all. Sitting straight up on the couch seems to be the only time I’m not except for laying down on the bed.
Thank you but the breathlessness is my Afib inhalers are the worst thing I could do. It is my high heart rate again although it is nothing compared to what it was three weeks ago at 158 for well over five months. According to the doctor it is because my body and heart is still exhausted from that. Right now it’s about 105 and staying there but up until the past Saturday it was between 70 and 80. I felt amazing and want to get back there. If you have a fib I am really surprised you’ve had inhalers unless they are some thing without medication is the type I am thinking of. my doctors are on it unfortunately Thanksgiving holiday etc. are messing up schedules. Thankfully the hospital in ER only 15 minutes away but I don’t need them. At this point I pretty much know what I should and should not do and when I push myself I feel it but thank you for caring
My mother had aortic stenosis aged 82 (ish) and had similar problems - high blood pressure and breathlessness. She had surgery and had her aortic valve replaced. She was given the choice of metal or organic (pig) valve and chose organic as apparently the metal makes a noise although it lasts longer. Recovery was a few months and it took a while to get her blood pressure medication right, but it has given her a new lease of life.
I am very blessed because the rest of my heart is fine. It is all about a film and came into my life just starting three years ago. If you know the signs of heart attack you would think that that’s what was happening if you were in my body but it is strictly Afib lack of oxygen. I knew Saturday evening I was in trouble I felt the thumping in my chest and knew it was starting again so I took my heart rate and it had jumped 25 points.
