I am seeing my consultant on Nov 1 - to look at my treatment and how I am doing etc
I wanted to ask - does anyone have a drink on this medication? I ve cut down a huge amount since starting methotrexate for my Rheumatoid Arthritis and now feels like I won’t be able to do or have much.
thanks
Paul

If you have AF then alcohol is generally ill advised regardless of what drugs one may be on. .
Hi Paul,
I've been on 5 mg Bisoprolol ( except for a period of 1 year at 7.5 mg) and I have continued to drink alcohol, beers, G & T, red and white wines - usually before a meal or during a meal ( depending on the drink) for the last 12 or more years since I've been diagnosed with AF. My point is that I drink consistently, that is .... no binge drinking. Alcohol isn't a problem for me, even with Warfarin in my party bag too.
I am on 5 mgs Bisoprolol twice daily, and Warfarin. I usually have a glass of wine after my evening meal. It’s something I can look forward to. I used to drink much more but reduced when I was diagnosed with Afib 5 years ago. I have, on occasion had two glasses of wine. I always measure them so I know exactly what I am having, and like carneuny says, iy you do drink alcohol, you must not binge ! I have never noticed alcohol affect my Afib, but I know many people find they just can’t take it. I expect it is the same with vagal afib - some people suffer with that as a trigger and some don’t. The only trigger I have found is stress. Perhaps that’s why Bisoprolol works for me, because it blocks the adrenaline. As suggested by others on this forum, do be careful about alcohol consumption as it is a known trigger for some people. Perhaps for me, that one glass of wine combats any stress that may be brewing and therefore does not have a negative effect. You also have to consider any other drugs you take as alcohol may be contra-indicated with them.
many thanks for that. I m seeing my consultant next week as am a bit overwhelmed. I take Rheumatoid Arthritis meds plus Amlodopine for BP. The consultant said don’t take Amlodopine the GP said do take it. All I want is a glass of wine 😆 I ll get there!
Hi, when I was on warfarin and bisoprolol I drank about 10 units a wk, maybe more if seeing friends, and that seemed ok, and I was more limited by prostate problems. But 2 yrs ago I got gout and that is pretty painful so cut down a lot and now I'm on apixaban I've been told alcohol is a no no, so I have about 1 unit a fortnight, but do miss a relaxing drink after some heavy gardening work.
It is individual, I imagine - but I most certainly have nothing other than a pleasant and welcome effect from a large glass of red wine or a large gin and tonic.
