22.5mg bisoprolol daily for constant AF

Hi, I have constant AF and have been on 20mg bisoprolol and 10 mg digoxin for several years. I have however recently been taken off digoxin which has left my heart rate higher than the acceptable rate. I have as a result had my bisoprolol disease increased to 22.5mg daily and was wandering is this considered a high dose of bisoprolol and how have other people found their level of exhaustion and tiredness whilst taking this amount. I am 55 year old female.

I think most people would be comatose on that amount.

That seems a lot of Bisoprolol!!

I can't take it nor, flecanaide nor verapamamil. but I am fine on -25 micrograms of Digoxin.I have persistent AF. We all have different cocktails.

I no longer take Bisoprolol, but even on 2.5mg a day I felt washed out. 22.5mg seems a very high dose to me. I don't recall anyone here mentioning taking a dose of more than 10mg daily. If it were me, I'd be querying this dose. with whoever prescribed it.

22? Blimey! I have been on 10mg most of this year, as well as in years previous. All in conjunction with other drugs like Amiodrone, Dronedrone and Flecanide. 10mg took a lot of getting used to, and in the weeks leading up to my recent ablation I was even on an extra 2.5 at night, but the A&E reg had to run it past the Cardiologist on call first to make sure it was OK.

I can't possibly imagine how I'd feel on double the dose, the general consensus on putting the dose up to 12.5 a day was that was the absolutle limit!

On a quick browse, I see the max dose recommended is generally 20mg per day. It could be you were punted the extra 2.5 to try and help keep a lid on your symptoms, as I was when I was on 12.5.

I take 2.5 and it tires me may be worth querying it. I also take Flecainide twice a day

Crikey! Do you really mean 22.5mg??

I could barely move on 10mg. When I've been in A&E 10mg was the max given. Are you in the UK?

I take 5 mg and have had it upped to 7.5mg on a few occasions. 7.5mg gave me brain fog as I call it and generally not with it so had to reduce back to 5 mg. 22.5mg and I think I would be away with the faires. I have always been told 10 mg is about the max.

10 mg is the maximum for those suffering from HF, but the max for others is 20 mg. The only reason I know this is that there was a heated debate between my consultant and a more junior doctor which culminated in them both going off to get reference books and reading them at the bedside. 😀

I am on 12.5 mg which is actually on the high side since I have HF and AF, although I was reduced to 10mg after my latest cardioversion, but increased after 3 days when it failed.

i am on 10 mg a day and was told that ws the max in an emergancy they will give me another 2.5 but no more i would be in a coma on that amount

Gosh! When I was first diagnosed I was put on the lowest dose of 1.25 and after three days of tiredness, was told to stop taking it immediately- goodness knows how slow my heart was beating then as I hadn't yet got a Kardia but I am not surprised that you are feeling tired on a dose that is 18 times more! Of course, we are all different and I am a slim woman but even so! Just saw that this was an old post so hope you have it sorted now and are doing well!

I am on bisoprolol 3.75 and complained of feeling tired all the time and my doctor upped it to 5 now feel worse. If bisoprolol makes you feel tired why did he increase the dose ?
