HI all. I've just finished taking antibiotics and I take apixaban after having had an ablation in May for flutter. I've bought some probiotics to try and restore my gut flora which has taken a battering after 3 courses of antibiotics. Does anyone taking apixaban also take probiotics or can offer any advise as to whether its okay to take them. Thanks.

Good afternoon Jaffacake8, there are many drugs that interact, and can be affected by probiotics. It would probably be best to ask for advice from your doctor or pharmacist to be on the safe side, just in case of any interaction with your medication.

I have been taking probiotics daily ever since I started on Apixaban about 18 months ago. No issues at all as far as I can tell

Hi, Thanks for letting me know. I've looked at some posts going back a few years on here and it seems like a lot of people take them without ant problems.

I take probiotics with apixaban but have never thought there might be a clash, have been doing it for several years, also eat prebiotic foods.

HI, just think I was being over cautious. I have bought the optibac ones. It's reassuring to know that you haven't had any problems. Think if you are immunosupressed though it isn't advised, but that doesn't apply to me.

I used to take a probiotic but then I read a LOW FODMAP Diet book on IBS which I suffer from and it said that in comprehensive lab tests it showed no affects on IBS, so you were best saving your money. I'm 78 and on Apixaban. I would add that my IBS has been a lot better since I stopped taking the probiotic. But that could just be a result of a LOW FODMAP Diet.

All the best.
