You may remember I had an aborted ablation last week. Fortunately rebooked quickly for 20th of this month
Hospital called today and want to bring date forward to next week 13th. Obviously glad as the sooner the better
My concern is my right groin is still so bruised and swollen from last time will they be able to get the catheters in? Or is it possible to put them in from the left side instead?
Any thoughts? Thanks for listening x

hi. I had 2 ablations in quick succession. Although my groin was not bruised the EP only put two cathetars in the right groin and put a third in my left. I am sure he/she will find a way. X
Thats right. I was given morphine at the start of the procedure but told they would wait till the burning part to give the sedative. So I was fully awake and aware
At my first ablation I had medazolam at the start and slept through most of it.
It was 15 weeks ago and Ive been in nsr since. Not had review yet and still on all meds. Waiting to see what happens when or if I come off. Hope not as I will now be like you, dreading it! Oh nurses can be dismissive if you are not actuallt at deaths door ! Helps get them on with the job I expect!
If you do come off meds after review I would ask about tapering down rather than just stopping. Your system is used to those meds and doesn't want a shock x
Honey I had exactly the same. They waited until I had intense pain and then said Ahh thats what we needed , we will now give you sedation. Also had great problems with right groin. They then went in left groin no problems. Problems with my arteries crossing each other apparently . Good luck with your next procedure
I had two ablations a month apart and they went through the same side in the groin. For me afterwards there was no difference in the state of the groin after the second ablation compared to the first nor the recovery afterwards.
I had second one done 4 weeks afteafter first and they went in same side just bit lower but I believe they can go in other side if they need to.
Wishing you all the best. Definitely better to not wait as long!!
Ps. Being awake is pretty standard for cryo ablation less so for RF (heat) as its less well tolerated. I was awake for both but it was ok. Uncomfortable but tolerable.
Glad I will be be asleep for this one. You coped well to be awake for both yours.
Having said that suppose reactions to procedures can vary. My first ablation without GA was a doddle but this last one the absolute opposite.
I remember my EP saying I needed another and asking if I would agree to that. I said yes straight away. If I were to be asked no I would say no way without GA x
You may well find you can tolerate the procedure ok under sedation as others above have. My first ablation was fine and I did not hesitate to repeat it when required.
You may wish to specifically ask for a small dose of sedation at the very start of the procedure and if told no ask why not. And don't be afraid to continue to tell them throughout if you are in pain. Looking back I should have complained more and louder but didn't expect to have to.
Alternatively someone posted earlier that they were told by a senior nurse that if they said 'that's it I've had enough and I'm going now' you will certainly be made comfortable!
I would much rather had GA but at least a years wait & maybe with my other problems (seizures?tias) they would rather I was awake. I was ok when I had stents 14 years ago.I will try to think just a longer version of that.
On the list .Rang admissions & spoke to the girl who books them as we normally go away for winter hols a month at a time. She was brill when I was chasing cardioversion last winter. She looked me up & said 18 - 20 weeks average and I am 5 weeks in.Ring before I intend to go for my Jan trip.
I also checked with arrythmia nurses GA or Sedation & they said Sedation planned.Would be a year + if GA.
So not a long wait but sat in EP' s tray for 3 months till I chased.
