UPDATE ON: 'AFib much worse since ablation on July 6th'

Hi everyone,

First of all, thanks to everyone who anwered my post last week. Your posts all helped me a lot and actually saved me from running off to A&E because I could see that I was not the only one who had experienced the return of AF a couple of weeks after the ablation.

I had a few rocky days when I just didn't feel good and my pulse rate was very erratic.

Then, it suddenly went back to normal and has continued to be normal for the past few days. Fingers crossed it will now stay that way!

Many thanks again to all of you. Each one of your replies helped me one way or another.

That’s excellent news Moy and thanks for letting us know. We get so many posts from folk soon after their ablation who are quite naturally disappointed when they experience a few hiccups in the days/weeks after the procedure so your comments will be very helpful to them. Obviously hope the situation remains good but don’t be to surprised if should happen again 🤞

Hey, that's good to hear. Now stay cool in this heatwave- lots of hydration, cover up if outside, cool showers etc. I put tea towels in the freezer and wrapping them round my ankles and wrists.

Great advice. I also have a 'cooling towel' which was given to me. You wet it, then 'snap' the water out of it and it stays cool for ages.

I'm busy working my way through, 'The Complete Acid Reflux Diet Plan' at the moment. Good old Amazon! 🤣Xx Moy

Hey great! I found it really helpful. Some if the ingredients are a but geared towards American tastes and produce but I followed the principles and ended up making a list of Can Eat and Don't Eat in two columns. I like cooking anyway so it was easy to invent things from the list. The FODMAPS stuff was an eye opener especially as I ate a lot of pulses. Now I've found i can tolerate tinned lentils and butter beans so I keep those in the house. I'm not vegan but I'm eating a lot more plant based foods nowadays and feel better for it. Also lost weight! Hadn't planned to as my BMI was in normal range. Now it's very good and interestingly in 2.5 years it's remained the same. Additional bonus

Hey I have just downloaded the acid reflux plan too Moy 😊. Convinced that the acid reflux and the many years of taking PPIs as exasperated AF. We have spoke a few times recently and I also haven’t had an af attack for 14 days now, looks like we are on the same trajectory.It’s the hope 🙈. Good luck

That's great news! I'm still ok today, so hope you are too, and that we both get the result we want.

I must say, I thought I knew most of what there was to know about the reflux, having had it for so many years, but we never stop learning, do we? I'm finding the book really helpful in explaining exactly why some foods you might not expect to cause it still do so and others that you might think would be a problem aren't.

It's also interesting that silent reflux can get you at any time, day or night and in any position so although we've raised the head of the bed (with considerable difficulty!) that's only part of the solution. There's still so much to understand.

Can't get on with the diet for a few weeks as we have our daughter and family coming for a couple of weeks and we will, no doubt, be eating out with them at all sorts of different times. I'll wait until I can concentrate on it properly before I do the whole thing, but meanwhile, I'll make use of any of the info that I can in the hope of calming things down a bit, if not completely.

Why is it important to keep cool ? Does the sun affect AF? I work in the garden, cycle, walk and play golf. Should I be doing something?

The thread started in the middle of a heatwave last year! It's winter now so no need to worry about keeping cool. The reference to keeping cool and hydrated was a bit of general chat about not overheating. Xx Moy

Hi, Getting rid of the inflammation in the body is the main thing to eliminate bouts of AF and I believe acid reflux is a main culprit. The whole diet thing is so very difficult to do especially the busy lives we lead. Don’t beat yourself up if you cannot stick to the exact plan. Just keep battling the inflammation that we all get in one way or another for example tooth decay can be a trigger for AF. Stress is a massive inflammation inducer, find ways to calm the mind. If only I would take heed of my own advice I would be fine Moy. 😁. Enjoy your family time x

Aw, I know what you mean about advice - it's easier to give than it is to take.

I'm sure you're right about infection. I get 3 or 4 chest infections most years and the AF goes a bit barmy then. I blame prednisolone for a lot of it. Mind you, it's always easy to put the blame on something external rather than admitting to having my faulty electrics!
