Tickly cough and ablation

Hi folks, I have dry tickly cough ( have had PCR test yesterday and they said if they don't call me within 48 hours assume negative) no other symptoms and I recognise the cough...every summer I get it in hayfever season

I'm wondering if it will affect my ability to lie still. Does anyone have any thoughts on this please?

I've tried the Arrthymia hotline at my hospital ( rather more like luke warm TBH) but it's ansafone as usual.

It's sod's law, too, that since stopping flecanide on Friday I have been in NSR. πŸ™„ I know they can trigger it but wish I didn't feel so well, would reinforce my decision to go for ablation..😁😁

Thanks in advance.

I had covid 3 weeks before my ablation which left me with a tickly cough. I was fine under sedation, don’t remember coughing at all during the procedure as was too anxious about the procedure itself! I was in and out of AF in the 2 months leading to ablation also and was in NSR on the day but went into AF during procedure. Took me a year to decide to have the ablation, still glad I’ve had it even though currently only 6 weeks in and still in blanking period of going in and out of AF every other day. Don’t wait till persistent though to have it done, I was persistent and still waited a year but symptoms just got progressively worse. Im sure I’ll need another in the near future. Recovery has been tough though but everyone is different as you’ll see on this forum. All the best!

Thank you for your kind and useful reply. Yes I've taken a lot of time to persuade myself to go for it,as I have been fairly well controlled on meds. However each time I get an infection I go for weeks on end in AF so that's it now ,got to get done.Hopefully get it and my flutter in one go but we will see.

Look after yourself and glad yours went well.

I'm also terrified as it sounds you were too! I shall put my big girl pants on ( obviously not for long haha!)

Thanks again

No chance of big girl pants I'm afraid. They do a very fetching line in net knickers 😁.

They look like Steptoe's string vest, are very brief and rough as a badgers back end. Also, they cut them in the lab. Supposed to give you some dignity but I dont think that worked......well not with me anyway as I nearly fell over trying to put them on 🀣.

I noted that you said that you are in and out of AFib 6 weeks post ablation. Can I ask if you’re still on your meds as I believe some people are told to stop them after ablation. I’m nearly 4 weeks in now … have had 2 sessions of AFib and on full meds. I’m assuming it hasn’t worked. I’m also disappointed as recovery is slow… not sure if that’s indicative of ablation failure. How are you feeling after 6 weeks?

Sorry that reply was meant for Bailey.

Yes I came off my meds after 2 weeks and my AF was worse so EP told me to continue with them until 2 weeks before my 3 month check up. So I’m back on 100mg Flecainide twice a day, apixaban twice a day and 2.5mg bisoprolol in evening. EP will then decide if need another ablation but he already believes it has failed. I’m pretty exhausted very easily still and exercise tolerance low. Can manage 10 mins on exercise bike or a 2K walk before I’m tired. Still not fully back at work either. Anxiety levels not great as I’m frustrated recovery is slow. Maybe I left the ablation too long before having it. I’m still hopeful it’s early days and miraculously I’ll be fine at the 3 month mark!!

Thomas I am now 9 months post ablation and I am on 100mg Flecainide morning and 50mg Flecainide night and that is most probably keeping it all at bay but I never have AF or its siblings (ectopics/flutter etc) so I think its worked for me. Its degrees. My EP says I can have another ablation tomorrow to tidy it all up and probably make it even better but for now with no symptoms I will carry on as I am. No AF is the goal however we get there ❀️

You will be fine under the sedation. If they think you have a problem they will tell you. You also know very well that if you cancelled the minute you put the phone down you would have an attack!πŸ€”πŸ˜†. Best wishes

Oh yes definitely. I'm not cancelling it's the right time now. Just concerned re the coughing as it is frequent.Thank you x

Hang in - its taken you a while to get to this place! And provided its not the Dreaded then I'm sure its fine to go ahead. You'll he sedated anyway. Maybe warn the nurses post op as you'll need to lie flat for a bit then too and your cough might come back as the meds wear off. Don't suppress the cough like I did post ablation - caused a bit of a bleeding in the groin- but all easily controlled.

wilsond in reply to Singwell

That's reassuring. Honestly without this forum I'd be lost. Still no call back from the nurses....Thank you xx

I was in NSR as well at the time but they must have irritated something as AF kicked off twice without them initiating it. Hope all goes well tomorrow. Fingers crossed but not legs eh? 😁. Let us know how you get on.x
