Cough after ablation

Immediately after ablation I developed a little nagging cough. Just a little tickle. Ive never had a cough in my life, not even years ago when I smoked. And could it possibly be from the ablation? Its mostly when I lay down or bend over. It's been 3 weeks since ablation.

Unlikely to be anything to worry about Dixiegurl. You orobably had a TOE which is a small camera passed down your throat to make sure you were free from blood clots during the procedure. Obviously, if it does not ease soon you should seek medical help.......

I had an awful cough after my ablation and I didn't have a TOE, just a GA. I coughed so much that I feared it would trigger AF. It took weeks to stop. Others have recorded the same problem on this site. Cough sweets are soothing.

Jennydog, it's been 3 weeks and just today seems to be getting a little better. I know many say they only felt soreness in the chest for a day or so but I have felt it for this whole 3 weeks, getting less and less. But I was afraid the coughing was making the sore feeling linger longer.

Mine took months to go, but it did eventually. Agree with Flapjack - it’s probably irritation from the TOE,

Hi, I have got exactly the same. Had my RF ablation on the 30 October and had a tickly irritating cough ever since. I have had lots of extra beats and runs of fast beats too so called my arrhythmia nurse who was so supportive. She emphasised how inflamed the heart is after this procedure and the strange beats are normal. She noticed my cough and asked whether I get very breathless, which I don't. Do you get breathless? I am waiting to hear back this morning as to whether the consultant wants to do a scan or wait and see if it clears on it's own. PM me if you want to talk as it sounds like we are going through the same symptoms.

My cough seema to finally be getting better. However the crazy irregular beats are a daily nuisance. I take metoprolol and deltiazem and still it happens especially after eating. After eating anything. I don't seem to have a trigger anymore. I have one month appointment next week.

I think it could have something to do with the heat generated by the abalation. I awoke during LA to a feeling of hot gas at the back of my throat. They knocked me out again instantly.

I’ve suffered the same since my ablation in August. Its now been almost 12 weeks and I’m only just noticing a difference. Like you, bending forward always caused it and turning over onto my right side in bed makes me cough.

During my ablation they put a tube down my throat, intubate. I think that is standard practice for a General Anesthetic. That causes throat irritation. I too have a cough but it is mostly from the lisinopril.
