Flu jab after ablation, is it safe
I don’t think there should be a problem, maybe worth checking at your surgery…….
Probably safer than flu but define safe.
I had my first flu jab this year and it didn't kick my heart off.
I had my ablation a week ago. I spoke to my EP yesterday & she advised me to go ahead with the booster. Booked for 10th December. Fingers are crossed 🤞
General consensus indicates that having an influenza vaccination is unlikely to trigger an AF episode. However, getting overly stressed about it might.
I have had a flu jab for the last 6 years, no problems. And I did not catch flu, which may be related!Having once had a dose of "proper" flu when I was 30. ( I had to crawl to the bathroom as I could not walk that far -20 feet!) , I am very sure no side effects of the vaccine can be that bad as having it.!
I am not aware of any reports of AF following the flu jab but it would be best to check. I was advised by a nurse to have the flu jab and the booster at least three weeks apart, although another medical professional disagreed with this.
I had an ablation on 30th September and offered a flu jab for 10 days later. I googled flu jabs after heart surgery and it advised it’s ok after 7 days so I went ahead, also mentioned it in the surgery. I had no problems. Best wishes!
