A fair test of AF resilience

Well!

Our youngest son ,fiance and teenagers went on holiday to North Cornwall.

On Sunday hubby and I sat in our normal post Sunday lunch doze in front of Country file.

As the credits rolled..phone call on mainline.

" Now don't panic..( instant panic) try and pinpoint us if you can

. We are on a beach with a waterfall not quite certain where but not too far from Newquay we think. Laura's phone has no credit and mine is dying. We made the kids leave theirs in the cottage for once.

Now we think Laura has broken her ankle, caught it between two rocks. We called the coast guard so hopefully they'll pick us up as the tide us coming in a fair bit. Don't worry though we can maybe carry Laura up the cliffs a bit........."

End of call.

Now I'm fairly unflappable I like to think ( daughter of a nurse and grandaughter of a Matron give a good grounding)

To be honest fairly flapped by this!

What do you do?!!

Well being British ,hubby made tea and told me to stop carrying on.

He sloshed a fair bit of the Xmas pudding brandy in...and turns out later used his tea bags..not decaffeinated.

And then another as time went on....

3 long hours later.. phone call from a surfer who had helped them up the cliff with his friend. En route to hospital!

Now then...she is the only driver..so now we have to sort rescue package...train...car..(,🤔)

Well what has all this drama to do with our site?just that nothing occurred on the Crazy Heart side. Thoroughly expected an episode.

Yet I can bend over a supermarket trolley and start to feel weird.

What a strange beast AF is. Never try to find triggers as Our Bob says, that way madness lies!!

Oh and yes all got home in the end and they cancelled Coast guard when the two surfers helped.

Children eh....even though they are all over 30....

Night night xx

OH that must have been stressful let alone the brandy! Glad everything was OK in the end. I love the line from Marigold Hotel "everything will be alright in the end and if it isn't alright then it isn't the end."

Re AF it is not always the crisis but the relaxing afterwards that you have to watch. Make sure you have a busy day today!

Qute agree 2nd. Back in the 80s when we were racing every weekend from March to October I was always ill in November after the season ended.

You know my wife says that about her asthma she seems to be absolutely fine going through a crisis but a week or so later has an asthma attack.

The vagaries of AF, no accounting for it is there. Pleased all ok.

Hmm, it's not your mind that sets your heart off then? Mine would have been thumping with the stress of being told that news. So kind of them to share their drama with you. Glad to hear they were all ok.

Made me smile, you think kids are a nightmare when they're children but you have to wait until they're adults for the full stress to begin. While technology has added much to our lives it also gives us a level of anxiety not known in previous generations

Oh I am getting funny flip-flops in my heart just reading about it! How amazing that your heart behaved. So pleased that Laura was rescued and treated (I hope she is alright) and trust that you manage to organise something for your trip home. We never stop worrying about our children do we, my elder daughter and family drove to Italy and I'm rather embarrassed to say I tracked them all the way to make sure they arrived safely - now they have just got to get home!

What a great story for my morning breakfast -- and SO glad everything turned out well in the end. Congratulations on keeping a-fib at bay through all that! I hope everyone is now recuperating -- including yourself from the mental trauma!

Great experience one for all parents. You are a parent for life.

Years ago when there were no mobile phones I had a tearful short (2p) call from No.1 son from a phone box in our hospital and all I heard was that no. two son was dead. I didn't know what to say to my wife and all I said was there had been an accident and we had to go to the good old (the old one it was that long ago) John Radcliffe. Worried sick all the way in the car. Got there to see no 1 son waiting in tears - thinking Oh my goodness maybe he is dead what am I going to do. What No 1 son actually said through tears, hospitals sounds and the pips was "I thought he was dead" This was only the lightest of experiences with my two sons and I wonder sometimes how either we or they survived. At 58 and 55 they are still a big worry. My eldest son's favourite saying is "No plan, so nothing can go wrong."
