Update on ablation

Hello all, it was a long day yesterday but am feeling ok this morning, it wasn’t as scary as I had told myself it was , sedation was great didn’t remember anything apart from the hiccuping at the end.

I’m not sure what to expect now , when are the migraines going to kick in or do only some people get them.

The consultant wants me to stay on medication for three months but even after that he said I might have to stay on them , I thought this is why I had the ablation done to eventually get off this toxic medication.

It was also mentioned that maybe I should avoid coffee as it will undo all the work of the procedure, it was never a trigger for me but now I’m confused, my biggest trigger was stress which for me is hard because all the stress comes from one person which is my partner and that will take time to sought out.

Any tips for after care would be great.

Thanks

That's a hard situation and without asking for personal info about your home situation, maybe it's time for you to say - actually it's ME that needs looking after for a bit. It's not unusual btw to stay on your meds for a while and just seems sensible to avoid stimulating drinks. If stress is your trigger then maybe caffeine would make it worse?

Hello, I’m going to stay off coffee , I don’t drink now , I’m on a mission to get my health back. The partner and stress thing I’ve got to bide my time , I’ve learnt how to ignore , I’m dealing with a narcissist so it’s very toxic but that’s my end goal , to get out , just got to take it one step at a time. Thank you.

Life is short. Don't wait around for the right time to deal with your personal situation; you're in control to make it happen.

Hello, yes since I’ve had AFIB it’s really put things into perspective.

Stress reduction sounds key. A narcissist partner suggests to me, you need to look for a completely new hobby to give yourself that, albeit brief, mental break.

Hello, yes definitely, but it’s hard , he has ruined my career through his relentless behaviour and he doesn’t go out so it’s 24/7 , but watching endless videos on the subject help, family support is great I even spoke to his ex wife who went through the same so I’m getting stronger and my determination to get away is strong . Thank you

Blue, I had an ablation 5 months ago in May. I had read all of what to expect and looking back, I put myself in an anxious position unnecessarily. I had some very short AF episodes (minutes) and weird beats and rhythms for several weeks after, but eventually, slowly, my heart completed its healing and electrical remodeling.

I never had migraines. I was on Metoprolol Succinate ER, Amiodarone, and Apixaban for 3 months post ablation (I’m in US so some of these meds are called different vs UK). At that point (90 days) having progressed with no significant issues, the amiodarone and apixaban were discontinued and metoprolol ER dose was halved. I must say I feel much better after getting those drugs out of my system.

It’s a stressful time post op, no doubt. I kept a daily log of BP, HR, and general comments to chart my own progress and any issues. This helped me see the gradual improvement and helped with my confidence that all was good (and I have a Kardia). The log was useful for the doc as well.

At this point I’m back to the old me.

Interestingly, I looked back at my daily log the other day. I’ve got two entries in September and had none in October—so you can see how all of my worries are fading in the rear view. I’m back to the old me as I’m sure you will be in a few short months! All the best to you!
