2nd Ablation recommendation

Hi all,

I haven’t posted since first ablation in November. I was doing well going off Flecanaide in January and hoping I would stay in NSR for years to come. I stayed on Eliquis which I agreed would be for life as I’m 69 years old.

Unfortunately when I thought I was done with the beast it rested its ugly head in February and left me feeling defeated. I now know how all who have posted about failed ablation felt.

I have Parasysmal AFib with no other health conditions so I was so hopeful. I have since had another ten hour event this month. Dr is now recommending another ablation which after being on this forum fir more than two years didn’t surprise me. My question is , does it matter if I jump right in to get the re do are my chances of being AFib free better than waiting three to six months. Will the AFib I’m getting now get worse or stay the same since hopefully the Cryoablation did successfully freeze most trigger points?

Personally I think it is a bit early. I had a year between each of mine.

I wouldn’t rush if there’s just been a couple of episodes. It will be 6 1/2 months between my last ablation and the next one but I’ve only had a handful of days during that time without AF.

Bob, I’ve been concerned that it’s too soon to have anesthesia again and put my body through the recovery again . I’m back on the Flecanaide which makes me so tired but heart is calm. Do you think there’s a chance that my heart is still healing and that the AFib will stop completely? Or am I just fooling myself?

I always say three to six months for full recovery but some people are still improving up to nine months or a year. Point is that with waiting lists at approx six months even if you said yes now it may be another six before you got seen.

Thanks Bob, can a person have an event of ten hours after four months and still be in the blanking period?

AF is a mongrel condition. Anything is possible Gracey.

Hi gracey23,

Having just had my ablation yesterday I can feel the disappointment in your post. This must be a really hard thing to deal with especially when you were doing so well and you had started to believe it was over. I’m so sorry that this has happened.

I can’t give any advice but I’m sending you a hug and really hope things work out for you.

Take really good care 😊

Thank you! Yes it’s very frustrating. I hope you stay in NSR and enjoy every minute! Sending a hug back!

Did the Flecanaide keep it under control with a reasonable dosage ? have you tried that again , the ablation may have helped and you would need less and give yourself time for the heart to settle ??

I’m taking 50mgs Flecanaide twice daily since my last episode a couple of weeks ago, Yes, it will be interesting to see if being back on the med if it keeps me in NSR, only time will tell! After all the help I’ve received on this forum I’m not going to jump to another ablation right away. I will take a slow approach and try to not be disappointed. ! Thank you , Gracey

It may be that it was too soon to come off so hopefully you will see the benefits as the months pass.
