Update on Ablation number 2

Hi Everyone, today is exactly 4 weeks since my 2nd ablation and I’m pleased to say I feel so much better than I did after the first one last July when I was immediately in and out of Afib almost daily for 6 months. I’m very wary of getting my hopes up but I’ve had no episodes at all yet this time just a couple of ectopics. My EP wants me to continue the Amiodarone (yes I know how toxic it is but I’m having regular checks) until April when the 3 month blanking period officially finishes to give the heart time to heal although I’ve been taking it since September and I was still having very frequent and lengthy episodes whilst taking it! Soooo I’m thinking it’s a good sign that I’ve had no episodes as yet but I will be very nervous when I have to stop taking it, just incase it is keeping me in rhythm now if that makes sense? I am so desperate for this to work but I’m well aware it’s still early days. Anyway, sorry for the rambling post and thanks for listening x

That’s great news and gives me hope that if I go in for another ablation it may finally fix things. I had 2 months on Amiodarone but had terrible rashes and it started affecting my liver. I think it helped the heart rhythm/rate a bit but I too still had daily episodes on it. I’ll look forward to reading your future updates.

So good to hear you are in sinus rhythm. As this is your second ablation about six months after the first where you were in and out of afib, I gather you were in persistent. So my question is how many months were you in persistent before your first ablation? Also, what areas did your second ablation target?

No I have paroxysmal AF which became more frequent after my first ablation. The pulmonary vein area was targeted in both ablations.

That's good to hear, well done. Best wishes for a heart calm future.

My experience is a bit like yours. I had Ablation No1 which kept me in sinus rhythm for just 7 weeks. I was then given Amiodarone through and after a 2nd ablation. I stayed on Amiodarone for a total of 3.5 years until it started affecting my thyroid just under a year ago. The rationale for staying on it that long was that the longer the heart stays in sinus rhythm, the more likely it is to continue when Amiodarone is withdrawn. Since stopping I have been on low dose of Bisoprolol and all is well. I was lucky not to have too many problems with Amiodarone until the thyroid issue. Best wishes.

Thank you for that, I’m glad to hear you’re still in sinus rhythm, it gives me hope! Sorry about your thyroid hope that will improve now you’re off the Amiodarone
