Morning all. 4 weeks ago today I had a cryo ablation. All went well and I feel fine. Slowly starting to get back to work and doing some exercise. Not to intense though. Alcohol is my Af trigger. When do I have a few beers to test the ablation for success? Havnt touched a drop since the procedure. But I’ll only know if it’s worked by drinking ? Cheers all

4 weeks post ablation. Time to test it ?
After six months 😐
Only if you are determined to wreck all the work that’s been done to improve your health. Anything more than normal walking or gentle cycling on the flat would be a mistake. Assuming your groin was, and maybe still is bruised, spare a thought for what the inside of your heart must look like…..your decision of course but why risk it……
As far as alcohol is concerned, if you know banging your head against a brick wall gives you a headache, surely the sensible thing would be to stop banging! I’m not sure anyone would sanction what you are proposing so soon after your ablation….
I'm not a drinker ( sometimes wish I was), although surrounded by them 😬, but understand your wish to test! Don't!!If you know that alcohol is your trigger then you really must avoid for quite a bit longer before putting it to the test. Also, how many is a few ???
I had my ablation 4 months ago and have just come back from holiday. We had the odd drink with our meals and I didn't have any problems. Whatever you do should be in moderation and listen to your body.
Hi Lenlec, Beer was a trigger for me too, I had an ablation in March this year. I haven’t had a beer since and don’t intend to has the AF was so bad. I think deep down you know that it will trigger it again if you have 3-4 pints. Ablation is not a cure they say, it is just to make life slightly easier. Give up the booze and stay healthy boring I know but think of the alternative. Good luck!
Depends........ does the beer taste better than an AF attack feels bad? I'm fairly sure that alcohol is not a trigger for me but I've still avoided it for over 5 years.
Having got AF back 5 months after my ablation, I know I wouldn't risk it.
I had my procedure in August and think I'll call myself over it at the end of January so perhaps now is a bit early? Glad yours has gone well/
You can try that, but in my opinion there is a very good chance it will not end well for you. I was a big drinker, and my AFIB was triggered by this, and for years I skated on the edge, always trying to drink as much as I could get away with. Of course, ultimately this made it worse. Now I drink VERY little, a glass of white wine with a nice dinner, a beer or two when getting together with friends. Any more than that, it will lead to bad things. For me, it is more important to be able to have one for a special occasion than head back down the heavy drinking path that I know will lead to big AFIB problems. And also you should give your heart more time to heal, give it a break, it wants to beat steady, and adding alcohol this early will NOT help it.
It's far too soon! I had some horrible events at 3 - 6 weeks past my ablation. Please wait at least until three months after the last time your heart misbehaved, and longer if you can. I love beer myself (and am a member of a craft ale postal club), but it's unwise to risk it yet. Good luck.
Cheers All. 3 months it is then.
In the USA we have some non alcohol beers. Maybe you could look for some there? If it's just the taste you're after. I don't drink but had a friend who said the one he drank was very good. I agree with others. Why risk it.
I’ve given alcohol the chop. Finding good alcohol free (af haha) drinks is a long job. I was in Spain last week and many/most bars have ‘sin’ (without) on tap and it’s good. Here I drink: Erdinger, Leffe zero, Heineken 0% (malty yum), Speckled Hen low alcohol and Gordon’s alcohol free gin (surprisingly very good - others no good to me). It’s quite nice to be able to drink without thinking of impact etc. and drive. There don’t seem to be any drinkable alcohol free wines - I miss my red. I have dropped from 30+ units a week to 2 or less (I had to have a Manzanilla in Spain). Ablation 10 weeks ago today and ticker behaving itself, fingers crossed.
Why "test" a complicated medical procedure that put your body through internal trauma, still in the midst of healing, by having a few beers?
Your post didn't go where I thought it would. I was sure you were going to inquire about opinions on introducing high intensity exercise. I live in an area where there are brew pubs and craft brew houses on every street corner. I love beer! And I empathize with your desire to return to the fun. Some approaches I've taken to temper down the effects. Consider lower ABV varieties....maybe try out Kolsch or Pils or Pale Ales. Maybe try testing out your sense of moderation and discipline by limiting to a single brew? A sparkling water or soda and lime can go a long way too, perhaps before and after the single beer. But I'd implore you to think about how a return to heavier drinking might impact not just your arrhythmia but any number of other conditions that are much better off without over consumption of alcohol. If you are going to have a bender, it would seem 6 months would be a less rambunctious target...? Not judging and no scolding, here. In fact, I'll look forward to a toast with you after that time (just had my Cold Balloon party last week!).
