What can I take for a cold with runny nose when I have Afib. I want to stop the nose from running.

You must be very unlucky to catch a cold and only the second person I have "met" with one since March last year. (masks do apparently work.lol ) Sadly I can't help as most of the usual over the counter cold remedies are contra indicated for arrhythmias. Echinacea, hot lemon, zinc and all the old wives remedies do have a use though.

BobD -Even wearing a mask I now have the "worst" cold ever as featured in BBC news 🤣

Maybe this indicates masks stop you passing on germs but not catching them!

BBC News - Is 'the worst cold ever' going around?

Hi! You may not like the recipe, but it was effective in my case several times. Take an old cup for coffee or tee. Fill it with tepid water and add table salt, so that it is really salty. About 1 tablespoon on 1 dl of water. Rinse the nose with this salty water so that it gets really deep. Do it several times in succession. It is not pleasant, but it is effective. When the nose is runny, we have tears in the eyes. The tears are salty and they get into the nose cavity to try to kill the viruses in the nose. That's exactly why the nose is running. The salty water is only the improved way to do what the nature has attempted using the tear water. Sorry about the clumsy English, I hope that you will understand...

You can also buy ready made sachets from pharmacy with a squeeze bottle which simplifies life & ensures the correct ratio.

Slatterly - don’t ever try just ordinary water - it burns the nasal tissue & sinus cavity.

Not a good idea to stop a runny nose - which is also a symptom of COVID especially those double vaccinated so worth doing a lateral flow test to be sure.

A sinus rinse can help, steaming with Olbas oil, plenty of hot lemon & ginger & cloves. Paracetamol.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi thereI also advocate nasal lavage..

i boil some water, and half fill a small teacup. As it is cooling I stir in 1 level coffee spoon or half a teaspoon of salt. When just slightly warm I take a small plastic syringe, no needle obviously, fill it and squirt it up one nostril slowly. It is an odd sensation but then I block the other nostril and blow my nose over the bathroom sink. I repeat this twice for each nostril and do it 3 times during the day.

Not had a cold since I started doing this at the first tingling in the nose which used to mean I was coming down with something.

Hi slattery, I personally wouldn’t take any sort of cold remedy stuff from the chemist/drug store etc. Just plenty of water and plenty of tissues at hand. 👍

There is some information out there that suggests bisoprolo beta blocker can cause a runny nose too.
