Just a quick question.
Does anyone know if it's OK to exercise on a Vibration plate if you have AF?
I would ask my GP but I can never get an appointment for at least two weeks.
Thanks in advance. X

I'm not familiar with the vibrapower Bowcat, but its name suggests that it's one of those vibrating plates used for exercise. I'm sure its use would be fine, except that if you have paroxysmal Afib, I know that vibrations can set off an episode. For example one time on a cruise, every time I felt the vibration of the ship's engines, it would set off an episode. But that's not dangerous. The danger of Afib is that its chaotic heartbeats cause inefficient pumping of blood around your body so that blood clots can form in the heart, which can break loose and circulate, causing a stroke if they reach your brain. But that's why you take (or should be taking) some form of anticoagulant. Although those rapid and irregular beats feel awful, they aren't a direct cause of harm.
I use one with no problems. I was advised to use one by physio when I couldn’t go to the gym. Just go slow & gradual as a couple of mins is worth 10 in the gym.
I became really unwell after using one (before any diagnosis). So much so that I got rid of it. My symptoms were nose bleeds, dizziness and nausea which lasted several days. Apparently it isn't safe to use if you have migraine (which I have) but although I researched and researched I couldn't find out why.
I had one but it did set off my paroxysmal AF so I stopped using it.
We have one and CDreamer did say she'd used hers with no issues. I agree to try short bursts and slow speeds. I'd also recommend a simple cross trainer for wet days - we have a Gazelle and it's powered by you, no electrics. I imagine it's a bit like Nordic Walking.

"And because whole-body vibration can be harmful in some situations, check with your doctor before using it, especially if you're pregnant or have any health problems."
The powerplate type used to be contraindicated for heart disease, but a few years ago they removed ALL contraindications completely. So from a legal standpoint yes, but I'd check with cardiologists first if it was me
I've never used one as my friend had one that specifically mentioned in the leaflet that came with it, that people with heart conditions should not use it.
My last gym had one and there was a notice on it that said it was not advisable to use it if you had a heart condition
