Question

Did any of you have any sleep problems before being diagnosed with AFib? I have had insomnia for years and was told on Dec. 28,2017 that I have AFib. So was curious if it is related. I am planning on asking my Cardiologist when I see him this Wednesday.

Yes, I have sleep apnea , that and AF can go hand in hand

Yes.I had sleep problems until I was medicated but not apnea.As my AF calmed down I was able to sleep as well as previously ...but...I was always a light sleeper waking during heavy rain, and wind.

Thanks. I have had sleep study in the past and I was told I don't have sleep apnea, I just don't sleep well. Like I didn't know. My Mom and a younger sister have trouble sleeping too. They don't have AFib.

Yes sleep apnoea and CPAP is a big thing on here. Plenty of advice if you search that top right.

I think there is a link with anxiety. I have found it slow to work the anxiety down from a peak 4 years ago when AF was rampant and I had a so many tests and other health consultations. I wake up once or twice every night and I am currently working hard to identify the issue, so many possible factors, will post here if and when something conclusive emerges.

At present, I maintain a reasonable nights rest by an hours mindfulness, yoga style exercises and prayer plus a lateish hot bath. Good luck.

Hi Karzme. Yes, I did. My timeline was: I was diagnosed in the emergency room in 2011 with afib. The electrophysiologist (who is still my main doc) thought cardioversion might work but suggested putting my on rate control meds first and having a sleep study asap, He suspected sleep apnea and he was right. He believed getting on the C-PAP machine before trying cardioversion might increase my chances of staying in normal sinus rhythm. It worked. It was several years before I had my 2nd a-fib episode ( in my late 60's.) Thought I'd share because there are many ways a-fib can be treated. We are all different. Today I am fine, stable, well-controlled and don't really worry very much about having a-fib. irina1975

Thanks. I was tested for sleep apnea March 2017. I didn't have it then. I am now having a consult for another one in July.

Hi Karzme. A lot can happen in a year. Hope everything goes smooth. C- PAPS don't look like a lot of fun. But after a week or so it just became my Darth Vader mask and I had forgotten what good sleep felt like. If you need one, they are much improved and waking up after a good night's sleep can't be beat. Take care. irina1975

The sleep problem is usually related to sleep apnea, that frequently causes AF and hypertension, even strokes during the night.

I have just been diagnosed with af and finding it hard to sleep just took diazepam really horrible feeling

Hi. I was recently diagnosed myself. Have you tried Melatonin? That is all natural way to fall asleep.

I walked out with the dog a found myself light headed horrible feeling or am I just having a panic attack

I don't know. Maybe to much exercise to soon. Do you usually get that way or is it new? I think panic attacks cause pain in chest.
