I was diagnosed with AF April 2009 and since then it was ok till about 4 years ago ,when it flared up and I was put on 3.75 mg of bisolprolol,I also take blood thinners and blood pressure tablets, at this moment I have an irregular heartbeat ,started couple of days ago but it's not going away as usual,I checked my blood pressure it's normal but the heart rate is under 50 so I am reluctant to take the beta blocker ,but I have to do something I'm not getting any sleep it's a nightmare. The heart ticks over at about 50 then I feel a pulse coming along which slows the hr rate down and makes it irregular for a few secs then the rate quickens up and the whole process repeats.
Any suggestions about low heart rate - Atrial Fibrillati...
Any suggestions about low heart rate
I think that generally the amitryptilline you were prescribed will tend to speed up your heart. I believe there can be problems with amitryptilline causing a prolonged QT interval in the electrical circuits of the heart. May be an idea to check this out with the GP if you are still taking it.
As you have suggested the bisoprolol is a potential cause of the bradycardia. However, if you have been taking this dose for a long time, then sick sinus syndrome (SSS) is another possibility.
I'm not sure I've had amitryptilline actually,it's funny last year I caught covid and my heartbeat was spot on all through it,not a beat out of place ,and also I've lost over 2 stone in weight and yet the AF has returned with vengeance.
Sorry about my mistake with the amitryptilline. I mixed you up with eddy01 and your reply to him on another forum. I still feel my comments about sick sinus rhythm might be worth discussing with your GP
Yes I've never heard of sick sinus rhythm, but it's worth a looking in to.thanks
This is a matter for your GP not this forum I think. Please make an appointment and discuss.
Definitely get medical help, this is not something that can be diagnosed remotely and we could not advise about altering medication.
Hi,
I’ve got paroxysmal AF, I’m on apixiban, 7.5 Bisoprolol and atorvaststin.
My HR before this medication was on average 70bpm I’m now literally stuck around the 50 mark.
I only ever get some symptoms of tirednes, dreamy feelings and dodgy sleep once every two
Months when my HR dips to 47-48BPM - odd how it happens but it does.
Nurses have told me as it’s not constant dipping, it’s nothing to worry about. I’d definitely speak to your GP or cardiologist more.
Bisoprolol is a drug that is used to control and lower the heart rate. When I used to take it my HR was overly surprised causing tiredness and generally feeling unwell.
Discuss this with your GP though. As others have said, it could be any of a number of things.
Hi.I have PAF and a resting heartbeat of around 43.
I take 2.5mg of Bisoporol which my EP describes as a low dose and one he feels is okay for me to take even with a slow heartbeat.(I have a slow heartbeat without the Bisoporol)
I have only had around 6 episodes of AF in 14 months but my EP thinks it will eventually progress to permanent AF, so I am on the waiting list for an ablation.
I would speak to your Doctor or Cardiologist who might reassure you about the Bisoporol.
Please talk to your doctor about having a pacemaker put in. I have one since I had 4 cardiac arrests where my heart stopped beating altogether, and it is SO COMFORTING to know it's there. I don't have to worry about that anymore. Sometimes I see my rate dipping to 51, 50, 49 -- then it immediately starts to go up again when the pacemaker gives it a little bop.
My daughter was taking 2,5mg Bisoprolol for PVC. Her heart rate varies between 40-150. It can change from 90 to 40 (or vice versa) in the next second.
When 2,5mg doesn't work anymore, her doctor increased the dose to 5mg without concerning about her low heart rate. (Sometime, it can go down to 36 !)
You can talk to your doctor, but don't stop Bisoprolol suddenly.
Ok I went from 2.5 to 3.75 mgs ,and it doesn't seem to do anything as far as I can see.my hr is a low of 41 and maybe some exercise up to 52, after losing more than 2 stone in weight I thought I would feel better but it's not the case,I'm getting bad palpitations constantly so I'm not sure sure whether it's stress, AF or what, seeing a doctor isn't easy either.best of luck to your daughter.
I've just seen the doc and he's taken me off bisoprolol for good,so maybe your daughter should get another opinion
