hi, I was in hospital 6 weeks ago with a bad attack of A Fib. Came as a shock as I’d had palpitations on and off for a few seconds but nothing lasting hours. I was given Bisopropol and edoxaban to go along with the Ramipril and Amlodopine I was already on. The beta blocker must have worked as I went back into sinus rhythm over night. I think it worked too well as my blood pressure and heart rate plummeted, so they stopped the Amlodopine, took the bisopropol down to 1.25 and halved the Ramipril to 2.5 mg. I measure my BP everyday and have noticed that at rest my BP is around 115/65 but my heart rate is on average around 50 bpm. Anyone else have this problem with beta blockers, I do get some light headedness and tiredness but otherwise am ok. I’ve had a cardio echo and 24 hour monitor but am awaiting results. My GP is reluctant to help as he says I’m still under the cardiologist in the hospital but I can’t get hold of him and my appt to see him isn’t until May next year. I would be greatful for any others experiences of beta blockers. Thank you
low heart rate: hi, I was in hospital... - Atrial Fibrillati...
low heart rate
I don't think 50 BPM is too bad. Mine is in the 40s when in sinus but I do suffer with high BP. As long as you feel okay
thank you, that’s reassuring
My resting heart rate is 50 or lower without betablockers ! It's not dangerously low, but will obviously also lower your BP, the two being connected. If no ill effects no need to worry imho. 👍
My natural rate hovers around 52. At a recent echo it registered 47 (I am on 5 mg bisoprolol daily). I am to have a 24 hour monitor to check it does not fall too low at night. I generally feel fine on the beta blocker and take things pretty easy.
I would concentrate on how you feel and not what the numbers say. Some people feel just fine with a low resting heart rate . Others don't. Lots of people here don't feel that good on beta blockers - especially women even on 1.25 mg which is the lowest prescribed dose for Bisoprolol.
My pulse rate is regularly around 50 and have been told by cardiologist that’s ok. I was experiencing pulse as low as 40 so was taken off beta blockers and put on amiodarone. Feel much better and no AF since
I have atrial fibrillation and atrial tachycardia and I seem to have problems with most drugs they have tried. I'm alergic to amioderone, flecainide worked well for 7 months as a slow release each day and a pip to up if needed. It got to the stage I was taking top ups every night then it stopped working altogether. They put me on a beta blocker sotalol a hand tablet twice a day for 2 weeks then to increase to a full tablet. 4 days later I was in hospital with bradycardia 42bpm I could hardly walk, it got down to 33 at night, it was the 2nd night in hospital without the BB before it got to the 40s and stopped seeing of alarms and by 5am I was at 50bpm and felt much better discharged with a 'no more beta blockers for you' in now on
