Vaccine reactions

I have just anylised the posts about this and thought it might be helpful to quantify the results .

In terms of heart activity , out of the nearly fifty respondents five reported some mild arrhythmia during the two days post vaccination although four of those admitted such activity was not unusual so may be unrelated.

The rest had no heart related problems though a few did have flu like symptoms.

Hope that helps .

Thanks Bob. Certainly was my experience. No AF at all after jab.

Thank you Bob a big help to me. Having had to cancel my jab because of the snow I am now having it on Saturday. I must admit, with so many posts seeming to report problems, I was not looking forward to it. Your post has put it in prospective. Thank you.

Thanks Bob, great post. I had mine (AZ) 18 hours ago, and so far can only report that I’ve just had the best night’s sleep in ages 😴

My neighbour had the AZ vaccine on Monday and has just been telling me how poorly (flu like) it made her feel. She also told me of a mutual friend, a roofer who's still working although well into his 70's, he had the same flu like symptoms with the AZ vaccine and spent a few days in bed. I think it's the AZ vaccine that is causing more side effects.

These are well publicised effects Jean. The point of my post was to quantify any risk perceived or real to people with AF who may worry that it could set them off.

Reluctant to stoke the fire but there are quite a number of people on thyroid forum who after the Astra vac have had fast heart rate, some have ended up in A&E, it seems possible that us with thyroid/ autoimmune diseases are getting the cardiac/ gastric side effects more than the cardiac people 😕 Just saying !

Fibber222 profile image

That’s very interesting as I take thyroid tabs and I had a number of long lasting episodes. May have been coincidence though. I’ll see what happens when I have 2nd Pfizer jab

in reply to bantam12

I take one 125 Levo but not even a sore arm.

Hi I had pfizer vac 2 weeks ago sore arm for few days ,headache3 days later n bit achey no change in AF or Copd,or liver so all if i get the same with 2nd I'll be a happy bunny I also have low autoimmune,

I agree Jean, could be the AZ jab! I definitely suffered for 24 hours, and had random AF/arrhythmia episodes that I’m 99.9% sure were down to the vaccine.

I had the Pfizer vaccination two days ago. Alongside the Afib I have an underactive thyroid and other autoimmune conditions. I had palpitations during the first night after the jab and felt a bit off for a few hours -nothing that laid me up. Fine since. It certainly wouldn't put me off having the vaccination. I am so relieved & grateful Ive had my first jab. Game changer for us all.

I don't have a thyroid and I'm on thyroxine, I had the AZ jab and apart from feeling a bit fluey for a couple of days no other side effects. No worse than when I've had some of the flu jabs. Bring on the second one!

Now approx 24 hours since wife had AZ jab. Had headache same day, slight temperature in evening and feeling of tiredness. Today just a painful arm and injection site. No noticeable arithymia.

Had my first jab yesterday and am beginning to think the syringe was empty. I felt nothing as the needle went in and have felt nothing since. No symptoms at all. Not even a tiny bruise.

My wife said exactly the same.

Thanks Bob. For those of us with AF well under control long term I am still waiting to see whether a clear favourite emerges between Astra & Pfizer or a new kid on the block. My GP surgery chasing up my non-attendance were completely understanding and said just call when you are ready.

Am sure everyone completely understands your dilemma . My friend who has several AF episodes a month had the AZ one two days ago . Sore arm, achy the first night that’s it. Definitely no AF . I ve only had one episode of AF to date with a definite trigger , I had Pfizer one last Sunday no AF

Thanks, Pfizer is my preferred option so far.

I don't think you get a choice which one, not round here anyway. A friend had the Oxford yesterday and was really unwell last night and still is today.

Pfizer and no problems.

Had my 1st jab on Wednesday morning. The only problem so far is a very slight soreness at the injection site that became apparent this morning.

I've seen a couple of posts from people concerned about being asked if they're on anticoagulants and a suggestion that warfarin may be a problem. Unfortunately, I can't find the posts I saw. If you're concerned about this, there's no need to be; I'm on warfarin and when I confirmed this, I was asked what my last INR was, 3.3, and was told that that wasn't a problem. The only difference seems to be that they insisted that I sat and waited for 15 mins, after the jab, despite the fact that my wife was waiting in the car for me and was going to drive me home. When my wife, who isn't on anticoagulants had her jab, she was allowed to go straight after because I was driving her home.

I really can't encourage people enough to go and get it done as soon as you're able.

If it was the Pfizer you had BrotherThomas everyome has to wait for 15mins post jab so you can rest easy its not necause of your blood thinner. 😊

BobD profile image

Strange Brother T as most people have to sit and wait 15 mins not becuase of bleed risk but in case they have a bad reaction.

Hilly22 profile image
Hilly22 in reply to BobD

I had the AstraZeneca and was told I could go straight home as long as I’d never had a bad reaction to a vaccine and wouldn’t be driving. S had the Pfizer and was advised to wait 15 minutes even though I was driving.

jeanjeannie50 profile image
jeanjeannie50 in reply to Hilly22

I went straight home after the AZ vaccine, wasn't told anything about sitting for 15 minutes.

Just like after a flu jab. Sounds as if it’s the Pfizer one causing the most allergic reactions.

How are you feeling now? I had a headache and felt nauseous yesterday evening, and strangely a bit down in the dumps. A tad better today, fingers crossed no AF yet x

jeanjeannie50 profile image
jeanjeannie50 in reply to Hilly22

Do you mean the Astra Zenica vaccine?

Hilly22 profile image
Hilly22 in reply to jeanjeannie50

I had the AZ, and just like other vaccines such as the flu vaccine didn’t have to wait 15 minutes.

Seems it’s the Pfizer that causes more allergic reactions.

Hope I’m making sense, feeling quite tired so probably shouldn’t be posting at the moment.

BobD profile image
BobDVolunteer in reply to Hilly22

If you read through all the orginal reactions I think the Oxford AZ produces more problems with flu like synmptoms Hilly and the Pfizer generally far less BUT this may change for people who are immune suppressed.

Hilly22 profile image
Hilly22 in reply to BobD

True that Bob! I was responding to your comment about the 15 minute wait, which is a precautionary measure re. anaphylactic shock. Seems they’re not asking people to wait 15 minutes if they’ve had the AZ, so maybe there are fewer occurrences of an allergic reaction with the AZ than with the Pfizer. Just for the record, the 15 minute wait after the Pfizer is only advisory, people can leave immediately if they want to.

I’ve been expecting the flu-like reactions I’m having, and they don’t bother me at all. Just so pleased to be vaccinated.

I can’t understand why anyone would refuse any vaccine on offer x

Hilly22 profile image
Hilly22 in reply to BobD

By the way, when they asked if I was on a blood thinner I said “No, I’m on an anticoagulant” 😆

I had the AZ vaccine. Yes, I'm aware of the possibility of an allergic reaction but, it seems that practices vary. My wife and I always have the flu vaccine every year but, we've never been told to wait 15 mins after receiving it. We've had flu jabs at our GP surgery and at a local pharmacy.

baba profile image
baba in reply to BrotherThomas

It used to be standard practice to wait 15 minutes after any vaccination, in case of anaphylactic reaction.

Thank you, Bob. I will be having my first dose (Pfizer) later today and am hopeful that afib won't occur afterwards.

I had the Pfizer three weeks ago, no effect on my afib although I did experience mild flu like symptoms for a couple of days. Second dose scheduled in two days.

I had a strange experience. I was due to have my jab last Tuesday and I was really relieved that I was having a good AF day with no symptoms. Just as I got into the clinic for my jab I felt the clunk and my heart tripped out of rhythm and I was getting some really nasty hard beats. So I mentioned it to the technician and she got a doctor to come and see me. The Dr felt my pulse and said as it was just out of rhythm and not fast she wasn't concerned about jabbing me as the benefits far outweigh the risk. So the technician jabbed me and as soon as she did my rhythm disturbance stopped before she even got the needle out of me. And I had no other rhythm issues for 4 days solid which is unheard of for me. I thought the jab had miraculously cured my AF so I was well gutted when it kicked off again last night. 🙄
