Covid vaccine - rivaroxaban 'in range'?

Had vaccination this evening, in a pharmacy. Told the vaccinator that I take rivaroxaban, she asked when my last blood test was (about 6 months ago) and asked if my blood was 'in range'. I thought she'd got confused about what I take, as I believe warfarin takers have to manage a range of something or other (never taken warfarin, but read about it on here). I explained that I take rivaroxaban and there's no range for that. She said that there is and the GP should tell me what it is. I thought the blood test when you're on rivaroxaban was to check kidney function. Can anyone shed any light on this mysterious 'range' for rivaroxaban that she was talking about? I was beginning to think I wouldn't get my vaccine, so I said that my GP had never said there was any issue with my blood results, and on the basis of that, she gave me the jab. I'm confused, though, as I have no idea what it is that she thought I should know.

So am I Ecki, I’m not medically trained but as I understand it all DOAC’s only require at least bi-annual blood tests to check your kidney function is OK. Click on the link below for NICE guidance on the subject and scroll down to “How should I monitor someone taking Rivaroxaban........

I think it is your vaccinator who is confused. When I had my jab all Q and A were done by a "clerk" in the queue not the doctor doing the jabbing. I offered my warfarin book but was told no need if you are in range.

DOACS have no " range" and as far as I know there are only a couple of tests available to check on blood concentration of the drugs which are seldom if ever used. Annual or six monthly blood tests are merely to check kidney function as any such problems may mean the drug is not correctly secreted. Best advice is move on and accept not everybody knows everything.

Hi EckiI had my first COVID jab on Monday, overseen by a lovely doctor at one of the big vaccine centres.

I was asked if I was on a ‘blood thinner’ and then which one. I replied Rivaroxaban, “that’s fine, no problem” and was given the jab.

As BobD has said, it was your vaccinator who was confused, not you.

Hi I’m on Apixaban. I’m 43 and I’ve already had the Covid jab in January. Your vaccinator must have gotten confused. She probably thought it was the same as Warfarin, and the INR rate. I wouldn’t worry about it. Your correct we only need a blood test every 6 months to check our organs.

Agree - it was your vaccinator who was confused - you were correct - the only blood tests you need are to check kidney and liver function every few months.

Thanks everyone for reassuring me. I assumed the vaccinator was a pharmacist and therefore would know more about such drugs than I do. Probably does, but she must have had a long day of stabbing arms....

Interesting. I wasn't asked any of those things, just about blood test and if I was in range.
