Has anyone else discovered their heart really doesn’t like this cold weather?
Di
Hi Di, my heart has never liked the cold I get so much more ectopics when I feel cold.Hope you are feeling better
First day off Nebivolol. Fingers crossed xx
Yes I get short of breath just taking bird food out!My mum had AFib and was just the same.
Expect it's extra effort required ? Stay well Di xx
Trying to. 👍
No more than usual but I have chillblaines for the first time since I was very young when we woke up to the nets frozen to the windows..
Our unheated bathroom faced north across Portsmouth Harbour so we always had frozen flannels and toothbrushes 🙄
I love Portsmouth. My eldest daughter was married in the Cathedral, and now lives in Southsea.
What a lovely place to marry. I was confirmed there many years ago.
Yes, it is a beautiful Cathedral Hylda. My 2 eldest grandchildren use to sing in the choir before they `flew the nest`.
You must have been very proud listening to them.
I do miss those beautiful patterns frozen on to the window panes though😎
Pass!
Hylda, our downstairs loo has no heating (its in the utility room) and its B freezing in the winter so I always used to go upstairs. With the heart issues and diuretics it was becoming a bit of a nuisance so we bought a little oil fired heater with a temp setting on an extension lead. I've blessed it as I dont freeze my b*m off now! the only problem with the door slightly ajar cos of the cable is the cat now decides to accompany me
Not just my heart which doesn’t like anything below 5C or above 25C, my whole body stops functioning.
I've found I'm much more sensitive to extremes of temperature these days - had to be careful in the hot summer this year too! Bang go my dreams of visiting the Arctic circle...
Used to love the heat, not too good in it anymore.
We did a cruise to the Arctic circle in 2007. Even in late Sept it was very very cold. But beautiful. The food was great but the wine so expensive we went teetotal. Apparently all alcohol in Norway costs an arm and a leg. We were lucky enough to see the Northern lights. I am more sensitive to the heat in summer than I used to be but then summers here are much hotter than when we first moved from the UK. Once it gets over 32/33° I cannot garden . But I do get used to it. When the temperature went back down to the mid 20s this summer I felt cold!
Always wanted to go on Hurtigruten ferry to see the Northern Lights. Last time we were in France for a few months in our motorhome it was in the 40s. My heart felt like Concorde’s sonic boom.
Yes we have been having spells of very high temperatures in recent years. We have a regime - keep all doors and windows closed during the day . Blinds at south facing windows to keep out sun . Open up in the evening when temps drop. Do not go outside. Do as little as possible. Our kitchen and bedroom face south but I have an aircon unit in the kitchen. We have decided to tell our family that if they wish to visit in school hols in future it has to be at the end in late August rather than the beginning as my husband is no longer up to driving them around in heatwaves. I was rather pleased that covid stopped the annual visit this year as with my hips being so bad I was just not up to coping with an extra 4 people in the house.
You seem to have it sussed. We have air-con in our new motorhome.
May I ask if you had AF then? I'm guessing not. The Northern lights have long been on my wishlist...we've had -18 here in the middle of the country in 2011 and I recall is was -12 for two weeks. The cold air could make me gasp even then. Not sure I could cope with it now...
No but I was unwell on the cruise. I did not come back feeling rested and refreshed! When I got back a severe vit D deficiency was discovered. When we first moved to France we had two winters when we regularly had temps between -12 and -15° . A whole pile of plants that had done well in Brum died. Now with climate change we rarely go below -8°. But I feel the cold more !
Whereabouts are you in France to go that low? My cousin lives in Antibes and she says whilst chilly the skies are very blue. Bordeaux would suit me.
We live in the Limousin which is fairly central but not as mountainous and cold as the Auvergne . The crucial factor is distance from the sea. Winter is still shortish though. When I was in the clinic for my op mid Dec my husband was regaling me (not!) with tales of sitting having his lunch on the balcony in the sun. We have had temps up to mid 20s in Feb some years and I usually start my years sunbathing late Feb or early March on the south facing terrace outside our bedroom. But it can be cold too. We have had Easters when it's snowed and Easters so hot you would think it was a good July in the UK of a few years ago. We used to get enough rain in summer ( part of the reason we chose here was it was always green and lush) but the last 3 years we have had long periods of drought.
Have to live near the sea.
I’ve got an idea, why don’t you treat yourselves to a motorhome and scoot off to Southern Spain for the winter......if only eh! This may seem a daft suggestion, but have you tried wearing a mask when out especially when it’s really cold. I don’t normally wear one when walking out in the open but our village has some narrow streets and pavements, so I have started to wear a mask outside. During the recent bitter cold snap I noticed a big difference breathing warmer air......
Do you find it gets cold and wet and clammy round your face?
All good unless you wear specs...😉
Have taken to wearing my contact lenses when I go out. Mask, glasses, hearing aids - no chance.
Try using a snorkel......be a trendsetter 😂
😱🤣🤣
I have to agree with you. I wore my mask just for a walk around the block as there were a lot of people around and the warmer air made a huge difference to how I felt. It’s going to be a permanent winter wardrobe essential for me now in the future!
Nope, it just felt like I was breathing in warmer air
Tried it. AF instead! Should have used a snorkel. 😱😢
👎👎👎👎 sorry!!
Your forgiven!
👍 hope it quickly passes
Great, will give it a try tomorrow.
My AFib doesn’t discriminate On weather. It’s an equal opportunity A-Hole. Hot cold mild... my AF acts up equally
My heart doesn’t have a problem but my fingers and toes do🙁
When I tried to come off Bisoprolol I had a lot of palpitations, fast runs and pounding. It wasn't nice at all. And that was reducing slowly. I switched to Nebivolol and feel good on it. Why are you coming off? It could well be the stopping of the medication that is causing the way you feel rather than the cold.
My hr has always been low and arrhythmia nurse wondered if that was why I had resurgence of AF. She said stop Nebivolol for a week and she would ring again.
Hmm. I don't think a week off will be long enough to tell and I also think you should drop the dose gradually. See how it goes. If it's too bad you can easily restart, which is what I had to do. But then I'd never had a slow beat, always too fast since AF set in as persistent and weaning off showed an instant 10 beats a minute increase, which was also horrible for me.
I only take 1.25 so don’t think she was too bothered. Heart was bumping around in lower 40s. Have been known to be having an AF episode at 75.
yup, it increases my ectopics for few hours.....then i will take the vapourizer and hot tea then it subsidies
Hi Hylda, yes, I have noticed lately that when the temperature is below 18C I start to feel unwell but once I get warmer with more clothing & a hot drink and do some mindful breathing feeling much better.
