Can I please ask, if you are on one of the new anti-coagulants, do you feel really cold all the time?
Feeling Cold: Can I please ask, if you... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Feeling Cold
I'm on Pradaxa (dabigatran) and I don't feel cold.
Been on Apixaban since July 2015 and really not noticed any difference.
I take Rivaroxaban and have no side effects at all, but I also take Bisoprolol
and have white numb fingers and toes frequently, which feel very cold.
Could this be the problem.
Been on Apixaban for about 6 months, no issues so far.

I have been taking Apixaban for over 2 years but I blame my cold hands and nose on Bisoprolol and/or Flecainide as being the cause.
No, I'm on rivoroxiban and did feel terribly cold in January and February, but after stopping the hateful bisoprolol I don't feel the cold
Can I please ask what you are taking instead of Bisoprolol?
Of course, I'm not taking anything, my quality of life was destroyed taking it. My EP took me off it at my last review. Heart rate is 60 ish at rest. I'm in NSR at the moment, I'll have to start taking it again when I go in to AF, so fingers crossed that will be a while yet
Yes I agree - I get amazingly cold feet and hands and I'm sure it's the bisoprolol. I've now tried most of the NOACS. ( dabigatran, apixaban and now rivaroxaban) and it's been the same with all of them so I definitely blame bisoprolol!
Hi,
During the first 6 months or so following diagnosis of AF, when I first started Bisoprolol, I was cold. Mostly hands and feet. I was so cold that even in summer months I'd go to bed with gloves on hands, thick socks on feet, a hot water bottle and the electric blanket on. My heart rate would fall to around 46 bpm. I'd fall asleep for 4 or 5 hours and wake up feeling like superman.
Sometimes I'd try and kick start the heart with a strong, sweet coffee! That often got the heart rate up and the coldness would disappear.
Nowadays, after over 6 years on Bisoprolol I have no problems at all with it. As with warfarin, we are very good mates.

I took Apixaban for a couple of months during which I was no colder than normal but since being on Warfarin (3 weeks now), i am really struggling to keep my hands warm.
NooNoo
Warfarin, bisoprol and many others make hands / feet cold. However another culprit, which is often overlooked, is AF itself especially if you have other heart or breathing related problems. Also things like SA. That is because circulation is impaired and / or oxygen levels in blood reduced.
I was on Apixaban and was frozen all the time it was the only side effect but miserable
Hi I've been on Warfarin for two years now. I always feel cold, but I've got more used to it now and always try to dress with that in mind. A scarf always helps! I also get my thyroid checked from time to time because constant coldness can be one of the symptoms of an under active thyroid, which I have. I would visit your GP if it continues and is a problem to you. Hope that helps.
Flecainide at higher doses seems to make hands and feet cold.
I feel cold all the time and never thought it was Flecanaide. I take 150 mgs 2x daily so I guess could be. Thank you! Gracey
It's the Bisopral,I don't have any problems with Apixaban.
I'm on Lisinopril for high blood pressure, and was on warfarin, but just changed to Rivaroxaban. My feet and hands are always cold. I thought it was the Lisinopril that caused the problem.
